Hi Guys,

New to the site and not much lurking yet. I happened to run across an amazing deal on a B2100 with FEL that I couldn't pass up. Long story short, I now own it and need to use it properly. It's a 1998 with 540 hours on it, HST.

That's my girl in front.

I have just over an acre property, with about a 50'x75' square corner of our yard best described as an elevated mound - 4' max. No, it is not a leaching field. Basically looks like when they built the house, they cleared/leveled only a portion of the yard. The outer edges (S&W sides) of "the mound" are level with the ground so the idea is to eat away at it and taper those edges to reclaim that space.

We back up to woods so privacy is not a concern, and it also gives me a place to relocate the fill if needed.

I've heard a box blade may be the best implement to do this job. Alternatively I've heard rent a skid steer and save the tractor for the cleanup.

The soil is sandy and so far not too rocky. There are some stumps, but I can deal with those with a neighbor's backhoe first.

Box blade the right tool?
sizing? 48" I think I read 42" in the manual but that just seems too small.
Better ideas?

Please keep in mind, I just spent $6000 on a tractor and the wife is not going to be too happy spending money on 5 attachments at once. Box blades seem to be a reasonable priced option that along with FEL complete the job on a "hobby" type project.

Thanks in advance, I look forward to learning a lot on here.

Google "Ratchet Rake", watch the video, sound like it will do what you need done, combined with the bucket. I use one on a Kubota L2250 and it is an amazing tool. Costs about $300. and is very well made. Clamps on and off your bucket in minutes and, as the video shows, can be used to clear brush, level ground etc. Good luck.

I have a boxblade (a great counter weight for FEL) and a RatchetRake. Both are essential implements for home landscaping. Also forks that attach to the bucket are handy for odd jobs.
If I'm understanding what your saying that you have a roughly 50'x75'x4' high mound of dirt you need leveled. If that's so then I'd rent the skid steer and knock down the mound and put the dirt back on the back property line for later use.
Boxblades will level out rough land and a RR will finish level it for seeding but the FEL would be better for scooping and moving dirt but a skidsteer will do it alot faster.
If the dirt is soft then use your FEL to move it.

Thanks for the ideas. I checked out the Ratchet Rake but don't think it would really apply in my situation, although I can see its value.

Sounds like I'll go with the skid steer approach, and then save the tractor for the finish work.

Thats a nice little gem you found there. I think it is best to use a skid steer or such for your task. Its tempting to put a knew tractor to work but I think you'll be asking a lot out that machine for that size of hill.
