PT2425
So I am a first time tractor and PT owner all at once. I believe that my PT 2425 is a 2001 model with about 600 hours, on the Kohler CH25. Long story short I inherited the tractor to find that it had been SERIOUSLY overheated at one point. I removed the engine and have replaced head gaskets, coils, treadle cable, battery, power cables, starter, choke and throttle cables etc. Obviously with all this work to repair an overheated tractor I am concerned about heat moving forward. I have seen many posts on modifying other tractors but haven稚 seen anything on the PT 2425. So here are my questions.

1 can an additional fan be added to engine compartment like the hydraulic fan without over-amping the electrical system? Anyone done this with good results?

2 has anyone customized the exhaust on a pt 2425 to get the muffler outside of the engine compartment? Not sure how this could be accomplished with the folding engine cover/ seat. Would there be any real gains?

3 the parking brakes no longer function, I have played with the cable and pin and cannot get the pin to protrude out to engage. It moves around inside the housing but cannot get it out.

I am really glad to find this forum and the guys at PT have been really helpful so far. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to TBN!

I have a 2001 PT425 with the Kohler engine. My muffler is a factory Kohler muffler that exits directly out the rear. I've never had an overheating issue with this setup.

How is your engine compartment laid out?

After you get a few more post (5, I think), you can post some pictures of it.

My engine compartment is very similar to yours, instead of the seat hinging back mine hinges over to the passenger side. Also I don稚 have the plastic tank.

Do you think you'd have room for the stock kohler muffler like mine?

Yes, matter of fact I think my grandpa had purchased one for it that I have somewhere. I wondered if it would be a good idea since the power trac one has a ceramic heat shield.

Give it a look over.

But be careful if you remove the muffler that's on it. The exhaust bolts can be snapped off. I know. I have a thread on how to get out of that mess if it happens.

Yes. Quite a few of us have made the modification. No issues with electrical power. Seems to help quite a bit.

I have found the parking brake to be worthless and haven't used it since the first week of ownership......instead I use the large parking brake mounted in the rear....the back hoe  .......when I purchased it pt did tell me that the 2425 was not designed for mowing and could overheat if it was put under that kind of load.......good to see another tall boy here!........Jack

Your not too far away from me; I live near Selinsgrove / Lewisburg, PA. I bought my PT back in 2014. Those 2425's look very handy to have. Around here you see allot of the Kubota bucket loaders that look similar to those; without the back hoe, of coarse. I remember Terry telling me when I went down to buy my PT that there were people who stopped in to buy a 425 or 1430, and instead bought a 2425 or 2430.

Thanks for the suggestion. The only reason I have not used the back hoe is I typically leave it pinned in place due to leak down. The few times i left it unpinned I it ends up dragging the ground.

At this point it’s still a better option than this stupid parking brake.
