Good day everyone,

I am new to owning land (looking to close on 30+ acres later this year) that will be used for hunting purposes. The make up is 15 acres hardwoods, 10 acre CRP, and 5 acres Ag. The terraine on the CRP and Ag is slightly rolling/to level and the terraine in the hardwoods is rolling to hilly with some creek bed valleys.

My plan is to plant food plots for deer using a Plotmaster, Kasco Plotter's Choice, or similar self-contained unit in the Ag and in the CRP once out of hte CRP program. Some planting will also be done along the logging trails in the hardwoods.

The question I have is what horsepower tractor is needed for this type work. I do expect to need a FEL for light digging, leveling, etc.

I realize this is a very subjective question, but I have limited funds and do not want to buy a tractor that is more that I need, or less than necessary. Any help you can offer is appreciated.

BTW, I'm on the Easternshore of Maryland.

I would stay arourd a 40 hp tractor with fel and 4wd. Good size for hunting trail and food plots yet big inough to handle your other needs. Try a MF1540L

I would go 30-40 HP if you are on a budget. Any of the top five or so tractors will work well.

I would not count on a fel to dig. leave that to a rear scoop or box blade.. or if you have another 4k$ laying around.. a backhoe.

for that acerage.. mid 30 to mid 40 hp should do you, and still leave you moderately maneuverable.

I might get a quick detatch loader .. or at least bucket though.

What's your budget?
Are you shopping for a new tractor or will a used one suffice?
