Just found this site and thought I would lurk. Just bought a 53 ford Jubilee from my neighbor. He has owned it for about seven years, and it has been sitting for about six yrs. I picked it up for a song with a blade and brush hog.
Drug it home and tore into it. Pulled the carb, gas tank and radiator. sent off for parts. New carb kit, points, cond, cap, wires, plugs, gas bowl assembly, rad. hoses, etc. There was old gas in the tank. dumped it out and put a couple gallons of acetone in and shook it for a while. When I poured it out, it was fairly clean. Flushed radiator and it was pretty clean also. When I filled it up, I used distilled water and coolant.
When I got my parts, I went to work. Put new gauges in it also. I had put trans fluid in the cylinders and let it set. When all was said and done, it started right up and runs good. I will play with the timing.
I will have to get a pan gasket to stop the only leak on the tractor. Hydraulics work good.:united-states:
