My short story is i have been looking for a new zero turn to mow our property, I mow about 3 acres a week and so my search started. What i found was that most are in the same price range and since i was looking for a commercial unit the prices adveraged 6 to 8k, I wanted to patronize local dealers for the convience of service and warrenty work. I stopped at a local dealer here in michigan and he stated he had a new old stock toro z400 52in deck 19hp kawasaki that he would sell reasonable,so the next day i stopped buy and he said it was a 2010 model and we agreed on a price of 5k plus tax. I financed the purchase and it is now sitting in my garage. The problem i have is after registering it on toro"s website and doing some manual research it turns out to be a 2007 model and I feel I was taken somewhat also knowing that it is financed as a 2010 could create issues in the future if for instance we suffered a loss. I need some good advise on what you guys and gals would do at this point. What seems to be a good deal smells a little sour now:ashamed:. Thanks mark

When reading your thread, I looked at the Toro's last fall and was having a hard time figuring out what a Z400 was, since all the Commercial Toros I saw were ZMasters. So, did this ZTR have an hour meter on it(and how many hours did it show)? If it is a "Commercial" ZTR, that Kawasaki engine should be a FX series in it's model number(FR=Residential, FS=Heavy Duty and FX=Commercial). Also, it should either have HydroGear ZT-3100 trannies or higher(or a separate pump & wheel motor). And most Commercial units will have a minimum 10gauge deck with most having a 7gauge. I would make sure(I assume the dealer "implied") that firstly I got a "Commercial grade" mower like I told him I was looking for. Then I would confront the dealer with what you found out when you registered the mower's serial number with Toro and ask for a "partial refund" of the purchase price. If indeed the machine was NOT "used", has Commercial components, you like it, it's running and mowing well you probably still did pretty good on the price for what you paid but as a gesture of good faith the dealer should be willng to maybe refund $500 or so to you for the 3 years difference in the model he told you you were buying. I wouldn't be too overly concerned with the financing, since it was the dealer that gave the information about the mower, not you. Did you finance through the dealer's credit company? If the dealer is fair about this I think that a $500-$1000 refund due to the deception/mix-up(it may be that for some reason the dealer really thought it was a 2010 and I would give him the benefit of the doubt if he refunded some of my money). Otherwise, I might mention going to the BBB or Consumer Affairs division of the State Attorney Generals office to lodge a formal complaint. Bottom line, if it's a good mower and worth what you paid(minus a "reasonable" refund) I would want to keep it. You'd be hard-pressed to find any kind of 52" "Commercial" ZTR for what you will have paid.

badss98,
Well, with that information I believe you have a good mower!!! But.....that being said, I still think the dealer should give you some kind of reasonable refund. Here's why:last Fall, I looked at the 2012 Toro ZMaster Commercial line. They have(from entry level to the top-of-the-line) a 2000, 3000, 5000, 6000 and 7000 series. I was given a price of $6100 for a 52" ZMaster 2000 series(entry-level). This mower had a 22hp Kawasaki FX Commercial engine, the HydroGear ZT-3400 trannies(full commercial), aluminum spindles and the TurboForce deck(although it was a mixture of 10gauge and 7gauge). The 3000 series had the same Kawasaki engine as the 2000 series, the unitized 12cc pumps and 14.6 cubic inch motors(sounds like yours), cast iron spindles(don't know on yours) and a full 7gauge TurboForce deck(sounds like yours). The 3000 series also had the full suspension seat upgrade(don't know about yours). It "sounds like" your Z400 is more similar to the current ZMaster 3000 series except for a smaller hp engine(and I don't know about your spindles or seat), and I did NOT get a price for the 3000 when I was shopping, so I don't know how much more it was than the $6100 the 2000 series cost. If I were you, I would try to find out EXACTLY which "current 2013 model" your machine equates to and demand a refund based upon the current 2013 model with an allowance for "it" being 6 years old(even with 200 hours, that's a REAL LONG time for a ZTR to "just sit"). In fact, if I were you, I would ask the dealer "why could you not sell this ZTR for 6 years"???????? I still think if the dealer will refund you $500-$1,000 on your purchase(I would suggest that YOU recommend $1,000 and see what he comes back with) and not accept anything less than $500, that you will have gotten treated fairly considering the 2010-2007 deception. This is what "I" would do.
