New toy - Everlast PA300

Based on my experience with the PA200, you will love it. Smooth, reliable, consistent, etc., etc.

Others on here have had a similar experience. Never heard a negative thing - well, except from the Chinaphobes. :laughing:

Honestly, the biggest thing I am not proud of are the electrode holder (though a few like it), and the work clamp, which needs to be a nice heavy brass type in my opinion, or at least a big heavy 400 amp steel one.

I like the idea of it. Screw down clamping and you can run more of the rod easier. But it could work a bit better. Screw easier, concave and scored surfaces to clamp on the rod... I may take it apart to tweak it... A heavier work clamp would be nicer but at least it has the copper braid.

When I got my PowerArc 200, I took one look at the stinger, ground clamp, and set them on the self. I already had Dinse to Tweco adapters so I just used my stuff. I really like the Bernard Short Stub for pipe welding.

The electrode holder that comes with it would be better if the clamping arm was fully as wide as the slot it rides in, but as it is, smaller rod can get beside the arm instead of being clamped under it. All you'd have to change is that one part to make it much better.

The stinger that came with my PowerArc 300 looks just like your Bernard. It just needs the improvements I mentioned

I bought one of those cheap knock offs years ago. About the second time the rod fell out of the clamp I pitched it:laughing:! Then bought the Bernard. That's why I didn't even try the one that came with the PA200.

Those style have their uses, but the tong type is so much easier, and quicker to use in my book. I hate having to bend a perfectly good welding rod to angle it into the position I want.
