Well I ended up getting rid of the LT1050 and getting a LT2180 with just 80 hours on it. Went over the whole thing last weekend and so far I really like it, runs great and feels strong on the hills. Only complaint would be the deck size, the 42" just seems small for a Vanguard 18 horse engine, but it cuts fine and seems to go faster than the old one. Changed the oil over to synthetic, greased everything up and adjusted the neutral position on the transmission (That was a PITA, who came up with that convoluted mechanism for the pedals. The LT1050 was so much better for that).

Anybody have any tips/tricks or suggestions for this model ? I plan on keeping this one a long time (Thats why I wanted the 2000 series transmission instead of the 1000 series), so anything I can do to extend its useful life would be a good thing. :)

Simple: keep it DRY, ClEAN, COOL. use compressed air to blow off tranny and deck tops after each mow session. lose the garden hose and power washer. operate tranny at full engine rpm always. service per the manual. enjoy.
