Y'know, when I got back from Vietnam, I bought a '68 E-Type Jaguar. Had six grand in my pocket (re-enlistment bonus) and I was 23 years old.
That car was great! Had very few problems with it, other then eating fuses.

I kept that Jag 6 years...sold it for more then I'd paid for it (Jags were starting to increase in value (as collectables).

Now...if you want a "real" sports car, get yourself a Porsche 911 with triple downdraft Weber carbs and a sport exhaust. Had one of them for almost 15 years...then I got married...

Then, a stroke...so I went from sportscars that could do 140 MPH to a Deere that might do 11 or 12 MPH with a tail wind.

Life is grand...

That's a great looking Triumph. I'm a Triumph nut myself and can apprieciate the condition your car looks to be in.
I've got the 75 Spitfire I drove in highschool under a cover awaiting it's frame-off restoration and another 79 BRG Spitfire that just hit 19,000 miles. It's in unbelievable original condition after being stored for many years. I'm getting ready to sell the 79 though, I've come to the realization that at 38 years old that car is a little small for me and the wife to go cruising around in. I'll keep the sentimental Spitfire forever, but I think a TR-6 would be a better fit for me these days! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Love that distinctive Triumph smell /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Believe me, the pictures flatter the car. I would describe it as a nice ten footer. But then again, I haven't seen it yet in person. It will be delivered in a week or so. The price was good considering what shape it's in so I bought it. I have talked a good bit with a Stag club member who looked at it in person and the car is exactly what I was looking for. He also sent me scores of pictures, not shot to flatter the car, for me to look at. I can't tell you how many non running rusted out pieces of junk I've see with an asking price of 2k to 3k. If they are running with an original engine but still not in so great shape they are around 8k to 10k. This car was $4500. It also comes with a factory hard top which I have no pictures of though I'm told it needs paint. If it's like the one I had for my Vette it will end up being called a coffee table. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm with you on the TR6. I saw one on a used one on a lot in the early 80's and thought it was a great looking car. I have wanted one ever since. They are also plentiful with parts galore available for them. Problem is, as it was with my '65 Vette, that a two seater just doesn't work for family fun and I end up driving around a lot by myself. The Stag get's me in a Triumph and the kids can come along too.

I'm not too sure I know what you mean by the Triumph smell but if it's like my bike I can only imagine it's the smell of oil hitting the hot exhaust. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Did it have the 6 or the 12 in it?? From what I understand the 6 wasn't that bad but the 12 would put you in the shop quite often. Like the Stag, there are kits available to change the engine to an american V8. That's usually a bad sign.

Oh, I also looked at the 911's. This is another car I have fawned over forever. It also fit my requirements of being a great looking four seat convertible and at a "reasonable" price. I found a bunch that ran around 12 to 15k which I thought wasn't too bad. I have to admit that I liked this car strictly from a looks standpoint and know nothing about the different engines available though.

I had the chance to buy an e type jag, back in 78 I think, for like 2 gran. My insurance man at the time laughed when I ask him to insure me in it................I was 20. I wish I had bought it and parked it. I drove it once when the owner had been tipping a little too much, that thing would fly.

6 cylinder, 4 speed, coupe, wire wheels, very nice car.
