Tractor
NewHolland TZ25
Hey everybody, I have just moved out to a small acreage which has a shelter-belt, my 5th wheel and alot of Alfalfa. I have been looking at different tractors, from a Ford 9n to a Allis comber 17D to a mini compact tractor.

I am from Sunny and Windy Southern Alberta Canada:cool2: looking out my window at my grey sky and green field. Next few months, or next spring hope to have a house built, and a tractor to make the chores just a bit easier.

It looks as if I will be seriously looking at getting the TZ25 tomorrow or day after. It included the tractor 2006 with 140 hours, 60 inch belly mower and a 48 inch heavy duty tiller for 11 000. I think its a pretty good deal. What do all you New Holland owners think?

Does it sound like I am getting a pretty good deal? Hydraulics and engine seem good and all works. I wanted a bit bigger tractor but I only have 5 acres.

I want to move some earth, till between my shelter belt, spray, move snow on my drive way, could be 200 feet to road way. Till a garden which has alfalfa in it right now 50 * 50, and a 150 * 50 new shelter belt. Will the 25 HP motor and unit do it for me?

Anyways thanks for the input, seems like quite an active board. Its pretty funny how your interests can change so quickly. I have spent to many hours looking at tractors over the last month!!

NEW HOLLAND TZ25, Used NEW HOLLAND TZ25, NEW HOLLAND TZ25 For Sale At TractorHouse.com - Page 1

It sounds like the price may be in the ballpark based on these reference prices.

Having grown up with small farm tractors that were quite heavy I first thought the 1976 265 MF that my late FIL bought new would be an over kill for our 15 acres of hilly ground that is about 50% woods. I was wrong for the most part. Traction means a lot to me and I use the 8' box blade like a dozer. :D

Is your 5 acres flat as a board? CUT's are great and you will have to decide what you expect from a tractor. There is a LOT of difference between a 9n and a D17. :)

The D17 was pretty cool, but there is a bad story with it. A friend helped me with it, but once I was on my way to pick it up, they tried to bump the price up on it. Once I saw it, it was in pretty rough shape so I did not get it. It had a FEL and duelies. Big tractor, more than I probally needed, but like I said it was rough.

My ground is flat and planted with Alfalfa right now. I think I fogot to mention the NewHolland also came with a FEL.

While the D17 may have been serious over kill it does bring up another point about tractor size.

If one is retired and just want to stay on a tractor most of the summer than going light can be OK.

If one only has limited tractor riding hours then small is NOT so beautiful.

My tractor riding hours would be umm almost 0. The D17 was pretty big, but would have done anything I wanted. To bad it had no pride of ownership, and the person who looked like they spent many hours in the seat we even having problems getting it to work. Was kind of funny, as he was working the FEL, it had hydraulic fluid shooting out of the house, was burnging oil and I could not see the engine from all the oil that was caked to it. Had a bad tire that had some serious cracks.

I was really wanting to get it, but the people I took to keep me leveled and centered helped me through it lol.

What did you mean by limited tractor riding hours would not be so good?

btw Friday looks like D-day for me to get it...

Most should stay away from an old D17 for the only tractor in my view.

I expect you will not be happy long term if you do not get 50 HP +/- 10 HP.

I probally agree with you, its just that type of a tractor takes me way out of my Budget.. :(

Keep looking. I saw a fairly nice 255 MF (50+HP) with a match MF FEL go for about $7K not too long ago.

What are you looking at spending at this time? Get the right tractor and FEL and you can add the other stuff over time.

About 10 000 or so. Most I have seen in my area within 300 miles are old Ford 9n tractors, most don't have the FEL. Or old deers, but they are green, just like the color of money and most owers I see when they sell them, figured they are painted with money and charge accordingly. I have been looking for about 2 1/2 months and this is the best deal I have come up with so far.

Location makes a difference. I drive past about 40 used tractors on the 20 mile run into town every trip.
