Hello all, anyone have a list of things to check off before accepting their new baby? Start it up, move the bucket and backhoe around. Make sure all the levers and pedals work Anything else?

Check the fluid levels. Tractors are shipped dry. You would not think a mechanic could forget to add oil, but it happens.

Then start to work.

I have had three new tractors. All had a few problems develop during the first 100 hours.

You can almost count on the 'safety' switches needing adjustment once or twice each.

Wheel bolts/nuts loosening is another common problem. The tractor has to be jacked up to properly tighten. After the rims/bolts/nuts settle in they usually remain tight.

I just bought an L250HST FEL with backhoe.

I checked all fluid levels, went through the manual to check adjustment specs for the various levers and pedals. Clutch pedal needed an extra 1/2" of play adjusted out of it. All of my fluid levels were perfect off of the truck but within a few hours the Hydraulic fluid was below the sight glass. I called the dealership and they offered to come out to top off sometime the next week or come in and get a free gallon of fluid. They are only 20 minutes away so I drove in and got the fluid. I added a little over a quart and it has stayed steady since. There are a lot of places for little air pockets to hide with a TLB so this is not uncommon. When we get a new large lift at work it will take a few months for all the air to work it's way out of the systems.

Enjoy your new tractor :)

They should have a pre-delivery check list that the driver should go over with you and both sign. Check the grease fittings, even if they tell you they did so before delivery. Check all lights. Do a walk around looking for any damage, dings, scratches that were not present when on their lot. Sometimes road debris, stones, etc... can happen en route. See if they will throw in a can of spray paint for touch ups and future use. Look under the machine. If you are getting AG tires, check before they deliver to see what width setting the rear tires are set at vs. where you want them. Much easier for them to do than you.

And most of all congrats on your new machine and enjoy!
