New tractor ended up in the pond

Beenthere, I attempted the "jump on and hit the brake" move too...obviously it didnt work. :ashamed: Looking back I should have just turned the wheel!! It was running so it had power steering! I guess my mind wasn't working at that moment...It was busy thinking " OH !@#$, there goes my $20K tractor!!!"
Perhaps you were just lucky... How steep was the hillside ?? If you jerk the steering wheel over at speed on a hillside, you might have rolled it...

Anyways, i bet you double check the parking brake before walking away, from now on.. ;)

Best to let runaway vehicles go. My brother-in-law tried to catch a runaway truck and it cost him his life. Just let them go, they will stop on their own.
OOPS... Yes, that experience puts the value of new equipment in a TOTALLY different perspective, and i fully respect your point of view !

I once had a David Brown 880 tractor that had bad seals where the shift levers came up out of the transmission. If you left it out in the weather, without a sap bucket over the levers, rainwater would run down the rod into the tranny. The fluid was milky more often then not. trouble was if a speck of dirt got in it would wind up in the spool valves of the loader or three point hitch and leave you in a no lift situation. If you let it sit for a while the water would settle into the sump pan on the bottom and freeze solid into a block in winter.
I'd change your fluid just to be" for sure for sure" like a Valley girl and use the old to start brush piles on fire. With burning permit in hand of course. :)

Just one question why were you operating the tractor on a bank pulling trees with the ROPS down.
I would say you were real lucky and I don't just mean the little trip to the tractor wash !!!!
Some people just won't learn until it is to late.
If you had turned the wheel and rolled the tractor I bet your wife and kid's would have never thought of how much water got in the transmission.
Just a thought if you keep operating that Deere with the ROPS down your going to need more than luck !!!!:confused3:
