My two cents on the Hy-Gard...use it. It may be a waste to some but I do feel better using the original. These tractors should last a lifetime and I try to do everything to make sure they do. Buy the Hy-gard in 5 gallon buckets and it is not too bad. One of my small local Deere retailers only carried it in Quarts!!! I couldn't believe it....then I drove a bit farther to the larger Deere Dealer and they have 5-gallon buckets of it.

just thought i would ask about the oil, i would definately prefer to use the JD stuff. as for talking to the dealer or the the original owner i dont have that option because it was a repo. i got a great deal on it and again there was no leak until i removed the grass seal so no one would have even known about this problem. i did get it from a JD dealer but he is 2 hours away and was only holding the tractor until it got auctioned off, and i stepped in and made an offer before the auction. i have already paid for the backhoe from the local dealer and it goes in the shop next week for that, so if i cant fix her i guess they can while they have it. AND THANKS TO ALL THAT HAVE GAVE INPUT SO FAR AND ANYMORE THAT MAY COME.

Sorry to hear about your leak. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

As other have said. When you remove the seal, oil will drain from the transmission.

Remove the oil before you start the repair.

Then replace the filters and oil. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Coryip,

There is an upgraded transmission oil filter for hydrostatic transmissions. Make sure that is what you get from your dealer. The price is a bit salty but it is supposed to do a better job of trapping water than the regular filter.

I isn't a bad idea to pick up a gasket for the suction screen while you are there. You may or may not need it depending on how it was treated the last time that the transmission oil was changed.

Best,

Jim Fisher

Cory, everyone has talked around it, but don't forget to get the correct PTO cover while you're picking up the filters, etc!
