I'm a new tractor owner, MF 1522. I just bought a 55 gal. sprayer, PTO driven. I guess it just hooks up to the PTO shaft on the tractor and the chain keeps it from twisting. I don't remember the brand name (old age!) but will try to remember to write it down. What do I need to know? Is it 540 rpm?

Thanks for all the help.

Make sure the coupler is locked in on the PTO shaft. Hook up the bar and chain to where it is not in a bind and will have a little bit of twist, but not a lot. Engage the PTO lever on the left side of the seat. The twist button on the dash is what will actually start the shaft turning. It will be 540.

Directly to the tractor or do I need to buy a short shaft?

Hook up the bar and chain to where it is not in a bind and will have a little bit of twist, but not a lot.

Please explain in more detail. Do you mean the top bar?

Engage the PTO lever on the left side of the seat. The twist button on the dash is what will actually start the shaft turning. It will be 540.

Got this part. Do you think I should use the slow start button?

No you wouldn't need it, the slow start button is for implements like a brush hog, because it has heavy weight to get moving from a dead start. Just using the regular start will work fine.

If I can butt in with a similar question...

Also just bought a used 200 gallon sprayer and changed out the pump. I bought a kit that had the bar and chains included. Directions read that you should bolt the chains near the PTO housing somewhere for stability. Further stated that this may prove difficult and expect the need to drill holes for such mounting.

Sounds like I can just wrap the chain around the draw bar? It came with chains for both sides of the bar one of which had a spring for tension and wasn't nearly as heavy of a chain. I just hooked the heavy chain to the bar and planned on wrapping around the draw bar. Should I use the other chain?

Here is how they hook on to the pump. Also on the tractor, hook the chains straight out. Don't hook them, pulling forward or backward.

my pump didn't come with a chain, spring and bar contraption. It just has a small chain bolted to the pump. I can just wrap that around the top bar and be OK, right?

This is getting confusing with so many questions and answers!!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I've got a picture from here that shows a chain wrapped around the draw bar. There are 2 eyes screwed in somewhere...where?
