New Tractor Questions

I am currently looking for a new tractor. It will be used to clear about 10 acres (some of it is swamp), putting in fence posts, moving dirt around and maintaining the land. I am looking at a 1533 but should I go with hydro or power shuttle? The Massey dealer tells me that the 1533 is all that I need but the green and orange dealers try to talk me into bigger machines. Will the 1533 do all that I want?

The 1533 is a great little tractor. I had a 1433 for about 5 years. A 1533 should do everything you describe.

!533 should be plenty, I have a 1528 and do about the same type of work on 15 acres.

I also have a 1533 4x4 with 1525 Loader, it does a fine job. They are good Tractors.

I personally would go with the shuttle shift, mine has the syncshuttle but I wish I had got the powershuttle so I wouldnt have to clutch it. Plus it is cheaper to.

The powershuttle is not cheaper that the syncro shuttle the powershuttle is about a grand more.

How have the power shuttles held up? Anyone have one with a lot of hours on? I drove one and really liked it, it was on an Agco ST34A, same as the Massey 1533 I am told. I was really leaning toward one but got talked into a Case DX40 with a hydro. I really like the frame size and comfort and looks of the Case, but think I like driving a gear shift better, although the more I drive the hydro the handier it seems to get (only have 10 hours on it), but I also wish I would have gotten a cab tractor. Plowed snow four times so far, froze my butt off three of the four. Also the loader on the case is first class IMO.
I called the Agco dealer to see about a cab tractor, hasn't gotten back to me yet he is having trouble locating one reasonably close. What do you think would I lose a lot on a trade?

I looked at orange , green, blue and red. The green was to expensive,the orange didn't seem much interested and the red wanted to help me. I was looking for a smaller tractor 1532 size but when I saw and drove the 1533 it was all over but the shouting. That was it. It has all the power I need. It is comforatable and I think fuel efficent. I use it for all the things you mentioned and more. It is a great tractor and has not disapointed me yet and I am a little "rough" on equipment and it seems to take abuse ok. I like the clutch!

I know from your other thread that you already have your 1533, but I wanted to add to this thread for anyone using it to select a tractor. Not that I am an authority by any means, just sharing my thought process, however flawed it may be.

My dealer also suggested a 1533 based on my acreage and what I told him I would be doing with it. I decided on a 1547 largely based on the 1530 loader capacity compared to the 1525 loader. (1533 & 1540 tractor use a 1525 FEL, 1547, 1552 & 1560 tractor use a 1530 FEL)

My reasoning was: By moving up one tractor size (I know, skipped over the 1540 but it is the same size engine and frame as the 1533, more HP because of a turbo) I could increase to the greater lift height, weight capacity and breakout force of the bigger loader. I wasn't sure the difference in the numbers was worth it, but after seeing the two setups side-by-side on the dealer's lot, the obvious differences in the size and heft of the loaders convinced me there was a meaningful difference in construction.

Just my 2 cents, something others might want to consider. In the interest of full disclosure, I also wanted the Dyna QPS transmission, which is only available on the 1547 and up, so it wasn't only the loader capacity that swayed my thinking.
