Learned something new today

Just got a new trailer with hydraulic brakes. Hooked it up, changed the P3 brake controller to hydraulic and off I went. No brakes, no error codes. Checked all connections and they were solid. Breakaway worked. Come to find out after reading the manual, Dexter recommends a 25-40 amp 10 gauge 12 volt source to operate the pump. My previous trailer had electric brake so in that harness the 12v hot in the trailer junction box was only used as a trickle charger for the brake away battery. Not enough amps through that 14 gauge hot wire to operate pump.

I ran a temporary 10 gauge jumper directly from the battery to the trailer junction box and all is good. Will need to get a trailer to truck plug with 2 10 gauge wires in the bundle one for the ground and the other for the pump. Will also have to ensure 10 gauge wiring to the truck trailer plug.

Not all trailer cables are the same.
