I noticed that GreenSouth has a cab-model, 2009 JD 4520 for sale with OEM R4's that have a more aggressive tread design. They look like a hybrid R1 x R4.

Salesman says they're original equipment. They looked like a real improvement - IMO.

Anybody with a new, newer 4000 with a different R4 tire?

I have a 2010 4320 (since 2/2010) and the R4 tires are identical to the older R4 tires. Maybe there was a very recent change in the R4's. Deere did change the R4 rims from being adjustable to fixed (welded) which I did not like because now the wheels are either very narrow or very wide. I was surprised when the tractor came in this way.

Are you referring to the R4 tread design discussed in this thread? The different tread comes with the optional larger size tire.

Don't believe there is an option for different R4's on the 4X20 series. The 3X20 series does have two different size R4 tires available.

Good point. Missed that. Beats me then what they may be. I'll have to do some searching now.

Anything like this? An R4 option on the JD 5000M series tractors.

There is always a chance the dealer swapped tires from another tractor due to customer wants/needs --- like from a 3000 or 5000 series tractor. I was told the 3000 and 4000 series rim holes & bolt patterns are the same. Maybe the 5000 series is compatible also.

Yup... I think those are the ones!

I searched Fastline, Tractorhouse, Machinefinder and didn't see that tractor @ GreenSouth. When I talked with Nathan - he said they were stock, factory tires. Shoulda posted a pic when I first saw it!

Those beasts would sure be somethin' on a 4520-4720!

Thanks, JD755.

One of the rear tires on my 4520 says it is on backwards according to the arrow on the sidewall. For the life of me I can't see any difference in the treads.

Our OP is right. I have seen three 4000 series machines that have a slightly different R4 tread pattern. They also now are specifying a different wheel design than before in back. I am sorry I did not remember to look at brand names but I did not. It could be one of those running changes or even a short term change due to supply. My dealer did not know about it as he had not noticed the tires and wheels being different than before until I mentioned it.
