I was out servicing my jd batwing mower and decided to check the vent plugs on the 4 gear boxes. As i suspected.. all 4 were plugged. Also noticed that the vent plug is the dip stick, and one was broke off.
I figured i would just buy 4 more, as soaking them in naptha so far had not cleaned them out.. then found out that the little buggers are 13$ each from jd.. so.. I only bought one, to replace the broken one.
I then remembered my bucket of carb dip.. tossed the remaining 3 in the bucket.. droppe din.. let them set 5 minutes, came back, and dried them, then used compresses air to blow thru the hollow dipstick, and lo and behold.. the bubbles under the vent cap.. where they had been plugged solid before. All 3 cleaned up this way.
That carb cleaner dip must be good stuff. I had tried naptha and spray carb cleaner and neaither had cleaned out those vent caps.
