Long time lurker first time posting.

I've just picked up a spring tooth ripper old school style. I'm pretty excited as it appears to be in great shape considering the age and obvious cosmetic blemishes. I got it for pasture renovation. We raise pasture pigs and every fall I need to renovate portions of the pasture after the pigs move on, so to speak.

I would love some ideas or thoughts on if I should make it look pretty or leave as is. I'm thinking it might be kinda fun to restore.

I got one of those 2 years ago, don't use it much, but handy when I need a little digger, really like it.

This is one of those machines that is more than a field cultivator, but less than a chisel plow - hard to define what it is. Other than handy.

Ed Zachary.

They are not a classic shank chisel nor are they a classic spring/tine harrow/cultivator. We have one identical to that that we use behind a Ford NAA as a small field chisel and it works well. Despite the springs, I can never recall ever tripping a shank and we have hard clay soil with some rocks strewn about.

Agree. Handy, simple little devil.......

I have never seen one quite like that. It does look very handy though. Looks like something similar to what I am wanting to make only without the springs. My intended use would be to bust up soil and sod down to about a foot or so when doing some excavating or moving dirt with the fel. Loose dirt always scoops easier than hard packed clay.

I will say though, you must have lurked long enough and read enough posts to have learned about posting pics. Your very first post and we didnt have to beg you to show us pics:D I think you'll be just fine here.

Welcome aboard! That's a nice ripper - I could have put it to good use this past weekend, ditching and contouring a pesky wet area behind my blueberries. Nice photos, by the way. Great key and fill lighting - did you use a flash at dusk?

Thanks.

I saw some similar posts on TBN about this type of tool when I was researching my needs and think this implement goes by a number of different names, but most have settled on spring tooth ripper or spring tooth cultivator. Everything Attachments sells new ones and they have a good demo video.

If I decide to clean it up and paint I will post a couple pics.

Re: the photo. I would like to say I did it on purpose. The reality is I left the camera on some weird setting that created the effect. I used the computer to clean it up a bit. I did use a flash to help fill in.

You have a very handy implement. It is called a Field Cultivator. We sell the same one as Everything Attachments sells and are about 1 1/2 hr from the factory in Danville, Ky. Here is a Picture of the Fred Cain Model. Ken Sweet

Use one alot back when Grandpa was farmin. He would take me to the field in the spring time and drop me and the ford 850 off and He would tell me he would be back when he thought I needed gas. I remember it pulled that tractor pretty hard. I think I remember us using it to breaK up the soil fairly deep before we run the harrows/disc. I do remember it being my first intro to how well the lift worked on that tractor. I would sink it in the ground and when it would start to bogg down it would raise a little and forward I would go. Memories.............
