So I have a 2001 tc40 I want to sell and use that to buy similar priced skid steer. I知 thinking around hear I can get 15000 (had one offer at this from phone call only to 18000 which I have it for sale. Our property has more uses for a skid steer now. Tracks are big thing for out wet areas
In the woods when Moving firewood, snow plowing our long drive and maintaining the gravel. I also am tired of the cold and want to be be able to enclose the cab of a skid steer for winter. What brand and am I realistic I can find a used skid steer
For maybe only a bit more than I sell my tractor for. My tractor only has 990 hours so I also don稚 want many more than that on a skid steer. What make and model should I look for

I bought a new Case TR310, but ASV is supposed to be best on snow. Some Cat models use the ASV undercarriage, under license. Cat, Deere, and Bobcat have their own following. Sort of a Ford vs Chevy thing, though. New Holland is the same as Case.

Whatever you get, stay away from block treads if snow removal is in your plan.

Wheeled skid steers are favored for snow removal with the proper tires. My old Deere was terrible on ice with conventional tires, though. We’ll see how the Case does.

15000 should get you a descent sized SS but likely not as much of one wiht tracks vs tires - maybe a smaller one but again they are more $$$ - i have purchased 3 used SS in my life and had good experience with all of them with minimal small repairable quirky issues - this reduces price of course when negotiating and of course depending on your aptitude for fixing things that will limit this to some degree.

Next - if you are wanting a cab with heat/ac that is one thing but one with heat is another - again reduce cost, getting a fully functional descent SS in the 15K range with a full blown cab will have tons of hours on it and likely more issues to deal with

i opted for one iwth heat and no AC and added a fan and removed the door and leave the size windows open in summer as i dont do as much summer work these days in it - i bought all of mine for 11200, 11500 and 15000 on the last one all between 2000/3000 hours last one with cab/heat and new tires, latest is a 2006 volvo wheeled machine with 2800 hours 86hp large displacement non turbo machine 2500 lift - largest machine volvo made MC110 - its a dual arm not single arm like their newer machines

you will likely find machines in your area with heat only cabs due to your weather my last one i bought in the boston area and the one before that was near minneapolis, if you are willing to drive/haul you will find better deals

if I go wheeled SS could I get those tracks that go over the wheels for when I need traction in our woods I.e. sap season. Snow removal I think wheels would works. It逞エ a 1/4 mile flat gravel drive and I have QA snow plow i use now on my tractor. As far as cab heat is what I would want. Just a cab to block the wind would be great. I don稚 need air as I don稚 use it to make a living. Could I even add one of those electric heaters with a cab? Thanks for the help/ideas

I had a Case 1845C, it did awesome pushing snow with just tires. Rain/wet ground was a different story, you could spit and it would spin.

1845C are great old SS, any wheeled SS will be helpless in mud - but so is a tracked machine if its very deep, if you dont care messing up your yard or where you are working, steel bar tracks are the only way to go!!!!

i can DRAG a skid steer with rubber tracks around in the mud with my bar tracks on mine :cool2: - ive had to pull my cousin out a couple times with his Rubber tracked machine

If you are looking to move snow with a tire machine.....it had better be on dead flat ground. Tires on a skid in snow ...just plain suck. Pushing uphill is virtually useless and going down hill..it's really easy to break traction and start sliding. I have wide tracks ( 14" I think " ) and they are block pattern. ..it's a complete beast in the snow..and on dirt. If you find a used one with a ASV undercarriage..they tend to be maintence hungry. Lots of bogey wheels that wear and a little pricy to replace. The Cat type undercarriage rides much harder but tends to require less upkeep.
