Here's a new virus that my internet company just emailed me.
An extremely dangerous virus called SirCam is currently circulating throughout the Internet. It is important that you take several mandatory precautions to prevent your system from acquiring this damaging virus or spreading it to other systems. If you do acquire this virus, we will be forced to disable your email account to prevent further spread.
To prevent infection with this virus, DO NOT open any attachments with two dots in the full name, such as example.doc.inf. These will often be attached to email from people whom you know.
If you have been infected with this virus, we will immediately disable your email sending ability. (We will know you are infected because your outgoing email will have an infected attachment with two dots in the name.)
To fix your system, go to the web and download one of these easy-to-use free programs:
http://www.antivirus.com/vinfo/security/fix_sircam.com
http://wwwkaspersky.com/util.clrav.zip
Follow the directions in these programs and delete all non-fixable infected files to repair your system completely. Once you have repaired your system, please call us at 262-3422 and we will re-enable your account.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. In order to protect your system and the system of others from this debilitating virus, we must take these drastic measures.
P.S. Additional information regarding this virus:
How does this SirCam virus operate?
It emails copies of itself to entries in the infected computer's Microsoft Outlook Address Book. It tries to connect to the server that sent an infected email. If it fails, it tries to connect to three other email servers whose addresses are stored within the body. This means that it will send even if a server blocks it.
What users can get this virus?
All systems are vulnerable, particularly those using MicroSoft products, including Macintosh users of MicroSoft. People using Hotmail, Yahoo and other web-based accounts can also spread this virus.
How do I know if my computer has been infected with this virus?
It is safest to assume that you have the virus and to utilize one of the anti-virus tools recommended above. If we scan your outgoing mail and find that you have one of the virus attachments, we will disable your email immediately and our HelpDesk will call to notify you.
Can I get this virus again?
Yes. The free fix programs recommended above will not prevent you from getting the virus again, but they will keep you from spreading it.
How can I keep from getting viruses like this?
The only sure method to keep from getting a virus is to have updated virus protection at all times. These anti-virus packages are available at no charge from the following web sites:
http://www.kaspersky.com/news.asp?tnews=0&nview=7&id=208&page=0

What if I have any more questions or I'm not sure if I have the virus?
