Sorry to beat a dead horse here, but after reading so many posts regarding this thumb and all the different correction methods, and then confusion about what thumb is being discussed, I thought I would just see if a new thread would be easier. I see mentioned different generations of Wallenstein Thumb. I do not know what generation I have and can't figure out how to tell. I bought the tractor from the dealer in July of 07 with the thumb attached. I do have a sliding issue and have busted two fittings to date.

Is there now a Wallenstein version that works? If so, are they taking the old ones back or sending out fixes, and if they are sending out fixes, do I contact my dealer or the thumb company themselves. I was thinking about having a couple of stops welded like someone mentioned before, but now I read welding is not a good idea because of thickness of the dipper stick...I personally do not weld and don't have machine shop capabilities so whatever I end up doing, will be done by an outside shop. What does a guy like me do? Thanks, in advance for the advice.

Instead of throwing good money after bad, I'd cut my losses by just replacing it with a Bro-tek. My Kubota dealer did show me a weld-on thumb for a BX24 or Woods BH6000. I think it was Gearmore and retail was about $525, not including welding cost.

I've tried to sum up the current situation on the BX Wiki Thumb page. There was a mention (earlier 2008) of an improved "4th generation" but as far as I recall we've not heard on TBN from anyone who has it.

Thanks for that lead to the BX Wiki. However, I haven't been able to find out if Wallenstein is making good on fixes or replacements for older generations of the thumb. I haven't read anywhere if this has ever been done or discussed. Thanks.

I just got a few of the "4th" generation. It looks eaxctly like whats been shipped for years, except that there is a cut at the center of the thumb where it pivots. This allows the sides to draw in when you tighten up the bolts. If you have an older one, you can disassemble it and cut out this small chunk to allow it to tighten better.

Hi,
Any chance you could post a picture of where the cut is made? Thanks.
