New Wicked Root Grapple 60". Everyone Needs one of these! Also question about hoses.

I've had a few days now to work my new Wicked Root Grapple from Everything Attachments and it is awesome. I can't believe how much work I have done with it just in a few days. I bought the dual lid version along with the WR Long 3rd function valve. The valve installation was easy. The only thing I don't like is that there is no finished look to the hoses running up to the front of the loader and they didn't supply a sleeve for the hoses to go in. I need to find a way to mount the hoses to the loader arm and I'd like to install a plate up front to mount the hoses to. Right now I have them zip tied and it doesn't look good.

Here is a bunch of irrigation pipe the farmer I bought my property from had thrown in the woods. I had it all picked out in no time!

I've been looking at grapples for my MX5800. Nice looking equipment at reasonable prices. Thanks for the link!

I suppose it depends on what you want to do with the implement but is there any advantage to having a grapple width as wide or wider than the tractor rear tire track width?

I don't see any reason to have one wider. The bucket on my L4600 is 66". This grapple seems to fit perfectly and I don't wish it to be narrower or wider. I have a M5-091 also with I think a 72" bucket and this grapple would fit. I decided to put it on the 4600 because it's much easier to maneuver in the woods and the HST is easier to operate in situations you would use a grapple for. The M5 is used for field cutting.

I got a 72" wide LP claw type grapple when I bought my L3901. It's great for grabbing large single items and you can use it like a rake.

I ended up getting a EA single lid grapple 54" Wicked Grapple too. It has much longer lower jaws which let me carry more logs which is what I mainly use the grapple for. It was also lighter and the relatively narrow width doesn't seem to be of any disadvantage for what I use it for. I don't think a wider EA grapple would let me carry any more logs at one time. Might make a difference if you're going to carry smaller objects though.

I just ordered a MX5800 today and will use either one of these grapples with it.

60" dual lid on my L4060. Plenty wide, wider would reduce maneuverability.

Have 19 hours on the tractor. Mostly grapple work so far.

Kubota 3rd function. Hoses run through the loader arm.

I went the other way on my MX5100 - I have the 48" just so I could save some weight (think it is a bit over 600lbs) Works great and can't say I ever wanted one any wider as it does everything I need.

Seems to me it depends entirely on what your main application is for the grapple. If it is logs and heavier stuff the wider grapple seems unnecessary and maybe even cumbersome. If it is a bunch of debris and smaller limbs and vines and junk, then the wider one is probably better. Another fringe is where I find myself, cleaning up an old farm where I often encounter large limbs, rocks, posts and once in a while a fairly large tree fallen. In my case I found that the 4-in-1 bucket was much more universal than a grapple. No need to be taking it on and off all the time, etc. The problem I had was having to try 4 or 5 times to get a good hold on a small tree, large tree body, post, etc. Never seemed to be the right angle and kept eluding the grip of the bucket clamshell. I was looking for a grapple when another idea hit. What has worked really well for me was the addition of "teeth" about 8" long that I had welded to the removable/replaceable knife edge under the back of the bucket. Now I usually pick up the tree or post on the very first attempt. I have no need for a grapple now.

That is true, it does depend on your main uses. I grab some branches but not a whole lot, use it more for big logs and rocks in my case.
