I picked up my new XUV late yesterday afternoon. I haven't had too much of a chance to drive it yet because is got so cold. Tuesday it was in the 70's, yesterday and today the high is in the 30's and in the 20's overnight.

I traded in an 06 HPX. I can tell it is quicker and definitly smoother on rough ground. It is still bouncy but not near as rough as the HPX. It sits higher, maybe steers just a hair better and starts quicker. Although the HPX started very well. You had to use the choke in cold weather first thing but once you started it for the day it was good to go.

The one thing I do notice is that it is quite a bit louder. The muffler on the HPX was under the bed. The XUV is directly in the rear. I also have the poly roof on this one which I can tell gives an added echo effect. I have heard some complain about the brakes on the XUV. I have had a new 05 HPX and a new 06 HPX and both had spongy brakes where you had to press hard. It will get better when you get a few hours on them. The XUV feels about the same. They are a little hard now but I'm sure they will get better as time goes by.

Was it a good trade, yes. Would I do it again, yes. Is it a vast improvement over the 06 HPX, no. The HPX is a very good, well built workhorse and not all that less of a machine than the XUV. I figure I am getting a better ride more than anything. The extra 5 mph, to me, is not all that noticable. However, you do get there a little faster. I'm not too sure about the single post hydraulic lift. That twin post on the HPX was sure nice. When I hit the gas the tires take a little spin out, the HPX wouldn't do that.

I will tell better once it warms up and I can take it through the rounds. I got the gas version with dump bed, bed liner, floor mats, bumper guard, horn, poly roof and deluxe lights which consist of taillights, blinkers, brake lights and 4 way flashers. The 2 inch receiver hitch is standard on the XUV.

Congrats on the XUV. I love mine. Go get an oil filter asap since the manual calls for an oil change at 8 hours.

I never had a HPX so I can't compare the noise. I put one of those super thick rubber horse stall mats in the bed and on the floorboards. I noticed a big difference in noise after they were installed.

It will definitely spin out in gravel.
The single piston dump works fine.

The brakes seemed a little weak going down steep hills. It may just be my limited exposure to UTV braking. I was expecting car like braking. I will check the manual to see if the braking is adjustable.

One thing is sure, my neighbors with various model Mules are jealous of it's size, speed and especially the ground clearance.

Awesome Kahuna.

I'm very happy with mine.
The takeoff, extra clearance, fuel injection and the independent rear suspension are all huge enhancements over the hpx imho.

My hpx was constantly getting hung on the skid plate on the rear diff.
Hpx was nice but not as offroad capable as the xuv.

The xuv old performs my rhino in mud~!

We have had some cold weather move in on us also. Since I will not be using mine the rest of the week, I took my xuv back to the dealer today. The brakes just don't work like they did on my hpx. I can't even get them to lock up on gravel. It took my running into something in my shed 3 times before I figured out the brakes were not right. Hopefully I will get it back Monday or Tuesday. JC

Yeah I remember on my HPX I had to STAND on the brake to hold it on a hill but it loosened up pretty quick. It was the paint on the pedal or something that needed to be worn off though and not something else.

There is a preservative applied to the brake pads to keep them from rusting during shipping / storage...

This coating needs to be burnished off - and should be done by the dealer as part of the required PDI / Set-Up.

These are four wheel, outboard, hydraulic disc brakes - if they don't almost throw you out of the seat during a full speed stop - something needs to be corrected. We had this same issue when the HPX first came out, (which is understandable as it was a brand new model, with brakes like never before on a Gator) but I don't know why we are having it again...

No I mean the pedal was hard to depress NOT an issue with pads of any sort.

Maybe something got skipped on mine during dealer prep. The spring on the parking brake was also very loose and rattles. JC

This is kinda wierd?! The machine should not sit at a dealer for more than 6-9 months or so, but its very concievable that many owners may let the machine sit without using it for months on end... so are the breaks going to cease up on them? Not being critical, but curious...? We can get 7 lines of utility vehicals and I've never heard of anything like this.
