Hello all, I am the proud owner of a new (used) Yanmar1610D. It has about 700 hours on it. I have used it a bit already for moving some gravel and it worked great. The previous owner had it for years and years and used it mainly for mowing.

So anything I should know? I do not yet have parts/repair/operator manuals, how badly do I need them? The oil and air filter look new, but it has been in storage for a bit I think.

What should I do for it? Would it be a good idea to do an oil and filter change...what else?

I tried to use it to clear snow this morning, but the hydraulics were very slow on the FEL, and didn't work in some positions...I am assuming this is a problem with contaminated hydraulic oil (water) since it didn't affect anything until it was below freezing today? I let the machine warm up for awhile but the hydraulics did not improve...any advice is appreciated...relating to this issue or just for a new owner!

Thanks all

*on edit* I live in Golden CO, altitude 5.6k, gets cold in the winter....using tractor for general landscaping work, manure and snow removal

I definitely recommend changing all the fluids if you have a free afternoon, Ive spent less than $100.00 bucks changing all the fluids on my 1610D, even with the price of filters. If you do it yourself and do it right, then you will know for sure that everything has been done and with your cold winter in Colorado you can sit back and let the tractor work without worrying about the fluids and when they were last changed. I have gotten all my filters and simple parts from Hoye Parts, they have been great to work with and Aaron himself has even answered some of my questions on here. After ordering a 3 pack of fuel filters from them, UPS delivered the package and one of them was smashed.... but everything else in the box was undamaged and the box itself was square so I called down to them and they sent me a new filter no questions asked and didnt even want the smashed one back, just told me to throw it away. It was this simple gesture that hooked me on their services, classy folks down there. Ive also found that folks on this forum, are pretty good people, who knew that just having a love for Yanmar tractors could bring so many people together. Odds are if you have a problem and you post it on here someone is going to be able to dial in a diagnosis and a solution by the end of the day, which is pretty cool for a Yanmar newbie like myself.

Yeah, I have to agree with Justin. There is a wealth of knowledge here. I've never run a diesel before, much less a gray-market machine. Having this forum has really helped. I've made 3 different orders from Hoye, and I've received everything that I ordered and the shipping was pretty fast--great service.

So what does "all the fluids" include? I was thinking of changing the oil, oil filter, the tranmission/hydro fluid, the air filter...anything else?

Well like I said before, it'll take an afternoon but when I did mine I changed the oil/oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, drained/flushed the radiator and filled with new antifreeze. I also drained the fuel tank and put in new fuel, but this was not for maintenance reasons but because i pushed the screen into the tank on accident while trying to clean it and all the crap in the screen went into the tank. Then jacked up the front end and drained the front axle and front knuckles and put in new gear oil. I have yet to change the Hydro fluid but its on the agenda for saturday. Was all this really needed? Oh maybe not but im more familiar with the tractor after having tinkered around with it and changing the fluids. Also after cleaning it all up, I know now if any leaks from anything are new and where they are coming from so thats something to think about as well.

Good Luck!

Justin
