Just thought I'd throw out a quick introduction, I am a complete newbie when it comes to tractors. I grew up around heavy equipment and for a while I had a little mini excavator (Yanmar YB281). A while ago I started looking at getting a little tractor to do some projects with and started looking at the Yanmars. After much research, I decided that the 1510D or 186D would suit what I was looking for. It took a while to find one, but this past Saturday I took a 250 mile drive to pick up my new tractor.
It's a 186D with the column shifter. It was setup with what looks to be original equipment (based on matching faded paint colors) "quick" detach FEL, a 48" tiller, brush hog, box blade, and a utility trailer. All for $4,200. After watching things for a while, I knew this was a pretty fair deal since it was having some troubles with the powershift. After reading on here, I have a bit of troubleshooting to do on the transmission, but I'm confident it's something simple as it won't always engage in any gear, but once it does grab, it has solid traction so I've ruled out a clutch.
This weekend I'll be doing a complete fluid/filter change (double change on the transmission to try and flush it out as good as I can) and will be cleaning the screen and crossing my fingers that it was something simple causing the transmission issues.
Thanks all for the posting on here, I probably wouldn't have bought the tractor without the knowledge I was able to glean from this site. Looking forward to getting my new tractor up and running and possibly doing a paint job on it over the winter...
