Tractor
Yanmar FX18D
Just a quick hello to the Yanmar group. I've just purchased a FX18D from Tullahoma Tractors after reserching this site for several weeks gathering info. I'm living in Northeast Alabama... 6 acres, partial wooded and will be using the tractor mainly for bushhoging and prepping for a garden. I am real pleased with the dealer and so far with the tractor. I currently have the tractor apart prepping for paint, as it was fairly beat up. I looked at a lot of Yanmars, different models and condition and it came down to getting the most tractor for my money. Mechanicaly this checked out fine, but cosmetically, needed help. So now I'll get it painted up and pretty before getting it to work and in the process gwet to know it. I'm sure many questions will arise and I will enlist the members help.
Thanks
Chuck

Welcome to TBN, Your tractor should give you many years of good service.

Get ROPS for it if it did not come with! Post Pics.

Thanks for the welcomes. Although this tractor did not come with a ROPS, after driving through my wooded area, it sure looked a lot steeper from the seat of the tractor, so I did return to Tullahoma Tractor and fork out the 600.00 for the folding ROPS w/ seatbelt. Installation was easy other than getting the main bar up onto the axle by myself!!!!

I do have a question. ( I'm sure many more to come!) Other than running this thing off into some soft stuff...is there a way that I can check to make sure 4WD is actually working? Although I do have a 6 month warrenty, I do want to find any problems earl on while my purchase is fresh in the dealers mind.

Also I am going to have to pick up a bottom plow ( trying to find used but not having luck) Will this handle a double or should I stick with a single plow....12 or 14 inch?

With my 3110D . Just drivind on dry ground in 4 wd & making a sharp turn. I know it's in 4 wd as it is harder to make a sharp turn in 4wd. It the tractor wants to go straight

Really not sure of there parts inventory. I do know that they have service parts, filters etc, but not sure on repair parts although they told me no problem if I should need a part. I do know that the ROPS that I got from them came from Fredericks near Birmingham. I think they normally have these for the YM models...maybe they dont as much F model stuff. I was a bit leary of buying the F series because I know they arent as popular as the YM's...but I got a better deal on this tractor and ended up with powershift which I hadnt planned on. I plan on adding a FEL next year so the powershift will be nice.

As far as the plow goes, maybe a double 12" if you have good tires, but the problem is traction and to some extent power with that sized tractor. I could barely pull an old wheeled 14" single with an FX24D. So i would stay with a single.
