Happy Thanksgiving All,
I recently moved to CT into a house w/ 500'+ of flat driveway plus a 25x50 parking apron. Decided to dump my 30" snowblower and spent 3 months looking for a L/G tractor. Took my time and found a 2005 LX280 w/ mower, 42" blower, chains, and 4 suitcase weights. Unit was taken in trade at a commercial equipment dealer and sat unsold for 6 months. These guys sell contrctor equipment like Scagg and don't really sell to non-commercial customers - so it sat in the very back of a 40' storage container. Checked everything carefully including tranny, PTO, sterring, etc. All good, front tires a little low on tread but serviceable. Seat is perfet. Dealer ask was $1,600 but offered them $1,100 incuded taxes & delivery, take it or leave it. They took it
Anyway, it has 289 hours on the meter. The tractor is very clean except for some lower hood cracks which I understand is not uncommon. Came with the snowblower, chains and weights mounted. Fixed the hood craks with Permatex plastic welder - great stuff. Did a full tune-up and paid careful attention to the oil which was milky due to condensation from sitting in a storage trailer. Poured 4 qts of conventional oil through the Kawasaki until the it ran clear. Drained and replaced w/ Mobil 1 and a synthetic compat. filter. Engine starts and runs clean, tranny is smooth, cruise control works great, breaks and sterring are fine. Added a 12" LED light bar to the blower housing via magnet mounts and full relay system to isolate it from the LX's electrical system. Will change headlights to LED's this Saturday. All in all it sems fine.
Let me start of by saying that I bought the LX for snow blowing and will never use the mower. The mower deck and snowblower are rats. The exterior of the blower and the chute took me about 8 hours to restore. Lots of sanding, scraping, rust reformer, primer, and painting. Used Rustolium brush on enamel instead of spray for a heavier coat. I haven't pulled the auger to rehab the inside of the housing - that happens in the spring, but I did spray up the inside with rust reformer to slow the degradation down a bit. A fresh coat of JD yellow for the exterior and the chute. Lots of Moli into the shaft to push out the old grease and a spare set of belts just in case.
On to the questions. So behind the blower housing there are a number of solid shafts where those little plastic wheels could go. 2 down low, left and right of center, and one up high. I'm guessing those might be for transport because with the wheels in palce, the scraper is 1/2" off the ground, as are the shoes. Does anyone know what those wheels are really all about?
Also, how do I get my hands on a tech manual for the blower, and for LX? Finally, any tips, tricks, and/or suggestions would be appreciated.
