First new tractor purchase. I'm in the car business and there is a whole lot more information on buying them including dealer invoice. Almost every business person I've ever delt with want's to buy the car for 100 -200 over invoice, which they have access to. Is there a place I can find this out? If not, help me out here. This is what I have so far.

4310 with 430 fel
e hydro
61" hvdty bucket
r4
rear control valve

$18,200 best so far
Thanks for the help

The JD website has a section where you can "Build and Price" their 4000-Ten series, if I were more computer literate I would be able to provide the link to the site. Deere will furnish you with MSRP for whatever you choose, from there you can calculate what kind of price you are being quoted, 15% off is good, 20% off is great, 25% off is close to cost.

What you list for a 4310 seems reasonable but you don't say if it's MFWD or not, that adds about $1100 to the price.

Hey, blingbling, have you looked up your local dealers using the Deere Dealer locator? Using it, I found some dealers I didn't know existed. One of them was hungry for a sale, and I found a great dealer.

Of course, things aren't exactly the same between cars and tractors, and saving a hundred or two isn't as important as having a relationship with a good dealer. You don't want to get gouged, but you want him to be in business to take care of you.

I have looked at my local dealers. Unfortunately, they have been 1000 to 1500 higher than my best quote. I will give them the final chance to earn my business though. As for the auto buisness and tractors being totally different, I will respectfully disagree. Cars are a lot less reliable than these tractors, so having a good dealer for your vehicle is just as important or even more so. I work hard for my money and want to spend it wisely. Plus it sounds like there is a lot higher margin in tractors than cars.
Thanks again /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BingBling : Car margins versus tractor margins. . . did you think that is because a typically car dealership sells significantly more cars than a typical tractor dealership, therefore it can work on lower margins?

I think you need to shop price, but you should also feel comfortable with your dealership. Personally I won't buy another Deere product, but that is COMPLETELY the fault of my local dealer. I have a couple pieces of JD equipment that work fine, but were purchased before I moved to my current home. Now the local Deere dealers treats me like an alien. I went in for a tractor bid this past summer, looking at some of the 4xTEN tractors and couldn't even get a second of their time; I was comparing against both New Holland and Kubota (all 3 dealers are within 8 miles of each other and I had a check book with me to pay on the spot). That is a dealer problem. But that said, if you buy from the cheapest guy, and you need service and you go to the local guy, you may be on the bottom of the repair list. You might be able to get the local dealers to match a price from someone else.

I really think want to be comfortable with your dealership. Just my 2 cents. At my local J.D. store, if I couldn't get someone to sell me a tractor when I had money in my hand, I sure didn't get that warm & fuzzy feeling that they would care about fixing my tractor when/if I need some support. Like I said, that is a dealer issue.

All told, I am thrilled with my new tractor and glad I bought from a dealer who drove it off the truck and right into my garage. The sales rep then sat at my kitchen table and went through the entire manual with me and then took me out to do a full inspection and final familiarization tour of the tractor.

Spend the extra money and get the 4 in 1 bucket. You won't regret it if you do.

Well, tractors are very reliable, but there is also a lot of setup. Adding a loader, hydraulics, and whatever can really make for interesting issues. Even wheel spacing can really affect things. A good dealer will get that all working, keep it working and take care of you in a warranty issue. Look up posts by blurrybill (for example) to find out what CAN happen.

When I shopped around, I found I could save nearly $3K, I just made sure that the dealer was one that I could trust, and would be willing to go back to, if I needed service. That is the real point, assume that you might have to use the selling dealer for service.

Anyway, lotsa luck on your buying!!!

I want to 2nd Bob's advice - even if it costs a few bucks - here's what I gained by going local for my recent 4310. Free Delivery - Free Pick-up and Delivery during warranty period - discounted parts, and most of all a decent and respectful transaction that everyone was happy with. I didn't "Rob" the tractor, nor did I expect to. I priced 3 dealers in CT and they were all within $250 bucks of each other. I guess thats intentionaly keeping the pricing competitive so nobody drastically undercuts another dealer. As I said thats just around here - I can't speak for the rest of the country.

I understand the desire to save $$, but for me a local dealership is the way to go. I also forgot to mention that I don't have a trailer, or a truck heavy enough to pull the tractor, so the delivery included was very important to me.

Good Luck! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Good advice there, any dealer who wants to stay in business will price match if he is smart. I got one really competive bid from a NH dealer for a TC-29D that was about $1700 lower than a comparable 4210 and I asked the dealer who gave me the low quote on the JD to price match the TC. He came within $200 and I was glad, because the NH dealer was much further away and had a very small service and parts department.
