Tractor
Massey Ferguson 1528
Hello all! I am from Gloucester VA and own a Massey Ferguson 1528 tractor. Tractor currently meets my needs but would like to add a FEL to it. Wasn稚 purchased with one so will have to see what parts will be needed to add the hydraulics. Anyone out there with the same tractor?

Welcome to the forum!

I'm going to move this thread over to our Massey Ferguson section.

DABWood40, try going to the AGCO parts book on line: AGCO Parts Books
If that link does not work for you go to the AGCO Parts Books and go to View Books in the Guest User box.

Stumble around in there until you find a FEL that works for your model and then list the parts. As a minimum the general categories you should need are the lines from hydraulic pump to the joystick, the joystick, any mount hardware and then the FEL.

Suggest go to your nearest dealer and get him to price you a FEL including all the parts and installation. After you regain consciousness and get up off the floor, you can decide whether to have one installed versus the much harder do-it-yourself route. Depends a whole lot on what facilities you have, what your capabilities are as a mechanic, etc. You may want to consider one of the Used equipment/tractor dismantler places like Wengers in Myerstown, PA or something similar closer to you. Sometimes they will have a loader than fits or can be adapted to your tractor at a total price much more attractive compared to buying a new loader. Chasing loader valves, making up hoses, mounting things to the tractor, avoiding interference with other tractor functions, a little welding that turns out to be needed, etc. can be a challenge.

I found the cottage industry of the Amish/Mennonite communities in PA (with welding shops and custom fabrication capability) to be a great resource if you locate a loader and want it installed and made to work right. No doubt there are similar resources much closer to you than PA. Requires some sleuthing, phone calls and web legwork if you want to get into that. And do you have your own trailer and means to do a little hauling to a good source?

Dabwood, I found the loader used on the 17XX series it is a DL 95. AGCO Parts Books Looks like 3-4 major components, 1) FEL frame, 2) FEL bucket 3) Subframe system, 4)hydraulic system. You might also consider a Front Guard if you don't already have one.

My GC2400 came with a DL 100 which was replaced by the DL 95. If you could find a used DL 95 or 100 I would be surprised.

BTW, I built a FEL from a kit for my Yanmar. Kits are available by Metkit, MetKit Corp - Home Page They are located in Salem VA. I believe most of the kits are for the CADplans Corporation - Where you can find designs, tips and order information to build your own backhoes, diggers and MORE! products. I believe the Model 907 ($2764.90) would fit your tractor, and you could probably buy the subframe kit from MF or have MetKit fab a MF equivalent for the tractor. The reason I mention that is the front support channels to the rear support in the CadPlans units block some access to the engine. The MF subframe uses the existing holes in the tractor frame and doesn't need the supports.

I built mine in ~2.5 months and never needed to repair it except for O rings in the controller. NO! I did not have any welding experience nor a welder, but do now since the build. It would be a nice Winter project if you have the shop space and are adventurous.

Thanks all for the welcomes and replies! Have been without power for 3 days - just came back on! Due to the cost of buying from dealer, I was entertaining the idea of building one myself. Love a challenge! Believe I would still need to by the hydraulic housing to make connections to. I have looked at the AGCO parts diagrams but was hoping someone could verify the parts I needed. I am not very knowledgeable about tractors. Have only owned a 8N and this Massey.

I'm not sure what you mean by "need to by the hydraulic housing to make connections to." If you build your own or modify and existing FEL you tap into an existing connector if available (most probable) or cut the high and low pressure lines installing compression Tee connections to attach the new hydraulic lines to your FEL controller. At first that may seem daunting, but in reality is an easy task.

Your tractor almost surely has the frame mount holes, so fabricating the sub-frame is relatively simple. Next is fabricating the pillars for connection the FEL frame. Here height and the correct mounting brackets is important for the FEL frame and cylinder connections. These are dependent on the FEL frame and cylinders used.

If it were me, I'd buy the MF sub-frame and build the FEL from one of the kits. Any modifications would be obvious.

Do you have a welder and skills? Do you have a metal band saw? Do you have the space to build? When I started I had none but the work shop and treated getting them as an investment for future use. Yes, they have been invaluable since. BTW, I was ~60 YO when I built mine.
