Hi all, I'm Brendan.
TLDR
Tractor newbie, GC1725M TLB, 3 acres, Australia
Intro
I'm an electrician by trade with a history of hobbies in remote control doodads, 90's era cars (particularly Japanese imports), PC gaming and mountain biking. Now, tractors.
We are a young family with 1 child. I'm looking forward to getting the family involved in projects here.
TBN was an extremely useful resource during the research phase. This is my first machine and like everything you research from scratch, there is a lot of language and nuance to be learned before you can really start to understand what it is you want and need. It's exciting to see such a vibrant community who're so willing to contribute to discussions, particularly without some of the internet warrior bravado you see sometimes.
In the age of social media squashing traditional forums, it's refreshing to be here.
I'm used to dealing in metric, will try to adapt and not annoy you Americans with that too much.
Tractor, the interesting bit
Here's what I've ordered after months of research. I'll post pics when she arrives, you guys seem to love getting pics - I can see why.
Selecting this machine was something of a matter of elimination. Here's what I wiped off the list and why:
I got the MF because:
Property & Projects
We've got 3 acres of "lifestyle" property on the North West Coast of Tasmania, Australia. It's split: 1 acre bush, 1 acre landscaped garden & house, 1 acre paddock.
We have a lot of a type of tree we call "she-oaks". They grow quickly and then immediately break or fall over. Massey is the clean-up crew and to help plant more desirable, bird-attracting trees.
Here's what I've got in mind for this little tractor;
Keen to talk tractors with you all!

- MF GC1725M
- FL1803 Loader with 4in1 Bucket
- GC2300 60" deck
- BH2720 Backhoe
- Counter Weight
- Soon I'll order a little flail & maybe a tiller after watching TTWT enjoy his so much.
Selecting this machine was something of a matter of elimination. Here's what I wiped off the list and why:
- Compacts, here they don't tend to have mid PTO's standard
- JD, because the loader and backhoe available here are not OEM and the price was ~20% higher than the MF I selected. MMM was +50%, backhoe was +55% etc.
- Kubota, 3pt was optional on the backhoe model, pedals are strange and the price was rather high with those considered
- Kioti, the CS2610 we get here can't have a MMM with the backhoe subframe installed and the joystick was boom mounted rather than fender mounted.
I got the MF because:
- The 3pt stays on with the BH attached - I intend to use that little backhoe on-and-off a lot.
- It was available with nice OEM backhoe, loader and MMM which means the quick attach features should work properly.
- The price negotiated well.
- Our soil is extremely sandy so the little backhoe should handle it.
- I used a lot of MF equipment when playing Farming Simulator 19 - which is not a good reason at all.

Here's what I've got in mind for this little tractor;
- Landscaping
- Stump removal
- Light scrub "brush" clearing
- Removing fallen trees
- Fencing + fence removal
- Constructing an orchard
- Water management
- Carting materials
- Planting trees
- Improving the pasture - spraying, fertilising, seeding
- Mowing
- Not flipping
