Figuring about 10K for Cab and BH, you did pretty good. 30K would have been stealing it.

G'day,

We researched many types of similar small tractors and ended up buying a new DK50, which is not on your market in the USA but is a strongly marketed tractor here in Australia. It is basically a 50hp Turbo engined unit, similar in size to your DK45. They are really great to drive and are easy and simple to operate.

But on just 9 acres isn't a 45 hp tractor a bit of an overkill? If you were to look at a smaller capacity Kioti 4WD, like for example a CK25 or CK30, you might get a whole heap of extra goodies like FEL with bucket and forks, and a slasher, and some rippers, and a carry-all for around the same money as your DK45.

From various posts on the net here, some of those guys get really excellent performance out of a smaller CK30 Kioti unit. Our DK50 does about 155 acres which includes fence work, and general bucket work. We have larger tractors for the crops on another property.

I'm sure that Becky or Wallace (Wallace must not want to sell T-shirts and caps to girls in Australia who email him) and the other Kioti dealers in TBN will help you with a good deal.

Cheers from Riccarda /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hi and welcome to the forum. It would help people to answer if you fill out your profile a little. Go to my home at the top of the page and click. Choose edit personal info and enter your profile and preferences.
Because prices can be very regional, it helps others if they know in what area you live.
On the face of it, it sounds like you paid a little much in my opinion. Can you break it down by tractor, loader and backhoe prices? Then we can pickapart each piece. Of course, what good will it do if you've already bought?

havent bought yet. i live in fairfax va. 15 miles south of wash dc. dont know the laoder or backhoe just bought over the phone from a kioti dealer. called 4 dealers and this was the cheapest by 2k.

also, my 9 acres is filled with small 3-8 inch pines that i plant to remove. someone quoted 55k to remove them so i thought a decent tractor would get it done and id have an asset with money left over. will this handle it?

I'm a little tired, and didn't finish my statement earlier about your price. I think you paid $2 too much! Yes, I wanted to joke with you about it, and completely left it out.
For a cab model, with loader and backhoe, you got a fair deal.
Yes, that machine should get those pines out with no problem. They are not large enough yet to be a real hassle with the tap roots. The easiest way to get them out may be to dig around them some and then push them over so that you get the stump with the tree. It takes a little practice, but it's a good way, and saves a lot of time over cutting the trunk off and then digging out the stump.

Your price is what I would have paid for a cab version of my DK45S, exactly.

I decided to not go cab, and have purchased several attachments with that $5K, with some funds still in the bank. Of course, next August I may regret my decision, but it's done.

Wow, nine acres in Fairfax county without 45 McMansions.

If that price includes sales tax I think you got a pretty good deal. Trees smaller then 6 inches will not need digging, just push them over with the FEL. A toothbar really helps, and its easier when the clay is moist.

A word of caution, Fairfax is fairly urban and requires permits/planning/inspections for clearing more then 2500 square feet (county web page) unless you are actually farming.

I think he's going to just cut those pines with a bush hog.

My family and I moved out to Fairfax County in 1949, six acres across from what is now Fair Oaks Mall. We were poor but we managed to buy a ONE AND ONE HALF HORSEPOWER SEARS DAVID BRADLEY garden tractor. It would plow fine if you pushed a lot, it would sickle bar no problems, and would till ok with some pushing.
