Newbie looking at small dozer

Hi there,
I've been looking at a komatsu d21p-6. I have found one with the rubber tracks. I have lots of small trees and willows to clear, and some of it is in some low, soft ground. I am wondering how the rubber tracks will stand up to this type of work?

Welcome.......the rubber tracks should be fine......my buddy has used them on his Bobcat for years.....:2cents:

I think rubber tracks would be fine for your use, especially in soft ground. Long as your not using it in rocks, they are hard on rubber tracks. Show pics of your work, I am interested in a d 21 myself. LUTT

Crushed, blasted, and fractured ledge are hard on rubber anything. From tires to tracks. Steel tracks wear and are very expensive to replace. Rubber tracks are also much easier to get back on if you have one come off. Steel is an accident waiting to happen. Anything that weighs that much is just hard to work with. The pads open up more than wide enough for fingers to get caught between when trying to move the track into position to get it back onto the dozer.

If your work will mostly be in really soft ground I'd probably hold out for a "p" model with the wide pyramid tracks. My d20 p6 is nearly impossible to stick (I did manage to once trying to backdrag in bottomless wet slop). The rubber tracks would probably be fine for most general work though. They are good little dozers, easy to work on too. Hope you find just what you need in your search!
