bobcat 773, new holland 6610
First time bobcat owner. Just purchased bobcat 773, all seems well as far as operation, checked fluids, over filled hyrolic tank. Cant locate a hydrolic leak , Ive lifted cab, removed all inspection plates. Are all hoses visiable from the top. How can i inspect the hidden area lower in the frame or chasie Tractor mechanic thought leak came from auxilary hoses only. Stated as long as I did not press the auxilary button, leaks would not happen, yet continues to leak ???? where do I start?

Hmmm. There are a lot of places to leak. O-rings, couplers. Where is the area of the leak? Pictures would help. Can you smell oil when you use auxiliary?
Check the fluid in the chaincase which is the keel of your machine. With boom arms lifted and supported, at the front of the machine, very bottom middle, there is a plug. Open it and check fluid level to make sure you aren't losing chaincase fluid.

Cylinders can leak too and you could have a pin hole in a tube line (hard line). Check the base plates, hose couplers, etc. Check the drive motor hoses. Under the cab, with lift arms supported (always use lift arm support especially if leak suspected) look at the pump and the fittings/hoses coming out of there.
Check the hydraulic tank for cracks. I think the 773 had plastic tank too. There are a few hoses running at the bottom of the keel straddling the chaincase if I remember correctly (I sold my 773 10 years ago).

It's a great little machine and if you can find your leak and fix it, you can really get some work done. Maybe SS Doxie will see your post. He's about the most knowledgeable guy I've come across on here.

Get used to going after leaks. Some can be hard to find. At one time or another I think I have replaced every hose on my 7753. Best thing i can tell you is, start by washing it, keep the machine clean so you can find the leaks then if you do blow a hose, it is easier to keep the dirt out of the system when you change it. keep an eye on it, eventually it will get worse and you'll find it. You just need to find it, before you blow a hose and the machine is in say a hole. I keep 10 gals of hydraulic oil on the truck. Just in case i have to get it outa some place so i can work on it.

Yellowdog has covered it pretty good, but a few questions to have you answer and maybe able to help narrow it down a little more.

1. Are you having to add hydraulic fluid to the reservoir and have oil leaking out bottom of machine?

2. Do you have oil leaking out the bottom of machine and not loosing oil (having to add) in the reservoir?

3. Are you adding oil to reservoir but not seeing any external oil leak or leaking on the ground?

BTW, don't check for pressure leaks with your hand. Hold up a piece of cardboard and look for the oil hitting it. Oil under pressure can be injected into the body with very serious results !

The first hour I used my 7753 It blew the big hose from the pump to the hydraulic control valve under the cab. It's the bottom hose that runs along the chassis under all other lines. The hose had been setting in several inches of oily mud and was in bad shape. I suspect it had been leaking for a while from a pin hole but when it blew it dumped all the fluid in seconds. Only way to find it was to clean out the mud and run my hand under the hose.

dirt ditch brings up something important for new owners.
The bottom keel on a Bobcat is concave and will accumulate dirt, debris, etc. When it gets wet, and when rubber hoses are subjected to sitting in it for a long period of time, they start to break down and you know the rest.
I've had wood chips pack around hoses on my chipper and the same thing happened and I live in a mostly dry environment. On my Bobcats, I try and wash out under the cab at least once a week. I don't always lift the cab but make sure that water is draining (until it looks clean) from the drain holes on the belly/keel.
That may be a little over the top but I'm in dusty conditions (and I mulch a lot) plus it's a good way to find a leak you may not know you have (look for any oily residue in drain water).

Thanks for responses. The 773 is defiantly leaking hydraulic fluid. The leak is draining hydraulic resoivor at the rate of a couple gallons over two hours of operation. I followed the idea of lifting the cab, and moved around the foot pedals and forward/reverse( system under pressure) and we saw no obvious high volume leak, except lines that lead to the aux - hydraulic lines, which under pressure leak a little ( drips only). The fluid is gathering under the engine mounts and running out the right side. In adddition, a second area can be seen, With seat up, I did see fluid gathering below the seal where the hydrolic pump and the vale body meet. A couple or regular rubber hoses( not high pressure) hoses are near here and have 90 degree fittings that turn and enter the housing below the the pump.
Cleaning it is a good idea.
A mechanic spotted the leak that comes from the aux lines and stated they would not cause leaking unless the aux hook ups were used, yet fluids does drip from them while under pressure. I considered capping off this line from its origin below the seat. So ? What manuals would you recommend I find ? parts, repair manual, ? where is the best place to order. Number is 509640472. unit has 2600 hours. Thanks for the input.

I followed the idea of lifting the cab, and moved around the foot pedals and forward/reverse( system under pressure) and we saw no obvious high volume leak, except lines that lead to the aux - hydraulic lines. The leak is located on the back left side above the battery as the aux lines turn and run straight up and down which under pressure leak a little ( drips only). The fluid is gathering under the engine mounts and running out the right side. In adddition, a second area can be seen, With seat up, I did see fluid gathering below the seal where the hydraulic pump and the vale body meet.I believe this is above the gas tank that sits on the frame behind the large drive fluid tank? A couple or regular rubber hoses( not high pressure) hoses are near here and have 90 degree fittings that turn and enter the housing below the the pump.
Cleaning it is a good idea.Possibly im wrong in expecting to see fluid squirting from the leak due to the volume lost.

Any way I could get pass laying out big dollars for a manual at this point would be nice.(Edited version of previous post)
