Hello, just registered . looking for ideas suggestions on how to power a six foot two stage snowblower. I do not own a tractor as yet but I do have the snowblower. kinda got the cart before the horse but hey that's how it works sometimes. :)

Welcome!

Maumee is nice town.

The general rule of thumb for blowers and mowers is a minimum of 5 hp at the power take off shaft (PTO) per foot of implement width. In your location that should be plenty for snow. So, a tractor with 35 engine HP is in the range you need to look at to run that blower fully loaded. For 6-8 inches of dry snow, you can get by with less.

Tractors are rated for engine horsepower and PTO horsepower. PTO HP will always be less than engine HP, usually in the range of 3-8 HP less.

Gee, I guess that 6hp Ariens 24" self propelled walk behind my dad bought in the mid 60's was about 4hp short. I always wondered why it would only throw snow about 30' !

And it's still going strong almost 50 years later!

Snow blowers will use whatever power you have. You can just go slower or take a partial bite if needed. Most homeowners find a 28-35 hp tractor plenty for most purposes. If the tractor is smaller the 6 ft blower may seem a bit heavy for it. If you are looking at older machines, live pto is a good feature. Good luck - the search is half the fun of tractoring.

Pto powered or Hydraulic in the front, two different animals.Pto driven just buy enough HP,front require a power pack(hydraulic) or mid-pto.

Put 2500 lbs on it, and you ride too, then tell me how good it works. I don't know if you are serious or joking.

I've used a 28", 8 hp walk behind, about 11 years. There is no logical comparison between these tools.

A tractor mounted pto blower has the weight to cut down to the surface. A tractor has the power and weight to push the blower's cutting edge through the snow and packed snow, plus blow the snow.

A walk behind will usually want to ride up over that base material if you live where it stays frozen and packed. And it may just refuse to go forward when you get into whatever the snowplow plugged the end of your driveway with.
