Gettin' too old for that pony I've always wanted so I bought this tractor.
I've never been a tractor owner before. Had I been, I would have known to look at all the zerks and check out the lube situation, but it doesn't seem as bad as it could be. Maybe I could have negotiated a bit lower. Lotta slop in the loader arm pins but that seems to be just the way it's built. Hour meter says 1064 hours, what's there all seems to be functional and doesn't look like it's been terribly mistreated. Not leaking that I've noticed except for a hose connection on one of the loader arms, I pulled it apart and cleaned it and reinstalled the fitting with teflon, we'll see if that does the trick.
Be that as it may, I've ordered up new zerks and a spiffy Lube-Shuttle® Lawnmower Greasing Kit. I'm overboard about the cleaning gunk off, will replace all zerks and lube the heck out of it. Couldn't find the family heirloom grease gun my dad gave me 40 years ago, read up on grease guns and this sounded like the ticket. I have no affiliation with those folks nor do I receive any sort of compensation, this seems like a better solution to me than standard grease everywhere technology.
What other maintenance should be on my short list? Seems to run pretty good, perhaps a bit surgey at idle, will explore that later. I'll do an oil change and take a look at the plugs later, too.
Trying to figure out hydraulic fluid... It appears that the only place to get fluid in is on the loader pillar and it's very strange. When you remove the screw from the middle of that cap it's a bit mangled but looks like a breather, and the assembly that holds the cap mount ( and looks as if it was intended to hold some sort of filter?) has a dipstick stuck through the middle that has to come out to unthread the durned thing. Dipstick doesn't really give me a clue as to levels, seems to ride pretty firmly against the back of the pillar feels like it's on metal. I'll take a pic of the guts later. What fluid should I use? I have no idea what's in there.
I'm guessing that levels probably don't much matter as long as you've got plenty, don't know squat but appears the fluid runs from the bottom of the reservoir to a pump, and on its' merry way. Can anyone clue me in on the filter for that? Mine doesn't seem to have any legible markings on it.
I pulled the docs from Struck's site but I haven't found anything on the loader yet...
Thanks! Glad to have found you. Wish me luck, learning to use one of these seems a challenge but I guess I needed a hobby.
