I was speaking to the area you will eventually take over and plant hay on....you could contact your local ag store. Southern states... a farm type store in my area. Sells garden supplies, horse feed etc. They also have a service business with large equipment and will come to your farm, soil test , lime, fertilize and plant (alfalfa, timothy, etc) as needed for reasonable fees. You may have an Agway or similar in your area. Sometimes its better to pay someone who knows exactly what they are doing... you often get better results.

You will find tractors in "groups" of similar framed chassis with different HP motors. It may make sense for you to move up to the bottom of the next class. If you jump up in class you get more weight. Weight generally = more ability to move other objects. example a TC 48 is only 3 hp more than the TC45, but has much more loader capacity and working ability than the 45 for not much more money. The 45 is at the top of its class and the 48 is at the bottom of the next class. I have found there is somewhat of a price overlap from the top of each class, to the bottom of the next.

groups of similar machines with different engines:

older 1320 thru 1620
TC 25, 29 and 33
TC 35, 40 and 45
TC 48 and 55
TN 60, 70 and 75

BruceNorthEast,

Price for TC35 seems good but that would have to be verified by others as I get confused when it comes to buying US. Prices seem so low in comparison. (i.e. Canadian vs US )
I guess all I can say is 216 hrs for a tracTOR is very low. Everything else being equal (Dealership stands behind Tractor & test drive feels good) sounds like a GREAT buy. As others will chime in, if local Dealership is responding positively towards dealing with you & has a reputable track record...that's a GOOD thing versus purchasing from afar for less dollars. (within reason)

In as far as my own price reduction....I guess that is debatable. Initially, I was looking at new CASE DX33 & was quoted a fair offer from the start but Dealership did not want to budge from that point. (Little did he know that we were $500 from a purchase). So I looked elsewhere & not only found a cheaper price but MORE Tractor. You do the math. New CASE DX33 2004 "beautiful machine" (equivalent to a NH TC33D) c/w FEL for $27.8K or a NH TC35D (2001) with 79 hrs c/w FEL, SuperSTEER & block heater for $23.5K. You will get the same response from other posters, there ARE great deals out there I guess its just finding them. (I think I got lucky). Remember the prices I quoted above are Canadian .

In so far as the FORD 1920 goes..... I will leave that to other Posters as I am not that familiar, although it seems to have a good reputation. I have attached a 1920 link.
Looks like the same engine Manufacture "i.e. Shibaura" as current sub compact NH Tractors. HP for 1920 (32 HP) is also close so maybe is replacement.

You have been correctly informed regarding same frame size for TC35, 40 45. jinman will be able to give a more precise list of differences.

In closing.....all I can say is make sure you go with enough size of Tractor to meet your future needs. I know this is a loaded remark......therefore....from my experience (only 2.5 acres) err on the high side. You can always get a smaller Tractor (later) to handle small stuff.

Have FUN,

Vic

I would suggest going on Ebay look at Mcgrew Equipment almost everything he has is a no reserve sale . Right now he has some live auction items. I bought a mini excavator from him, A great machine and was exactley as described . His items change daily and sometimes the items are great deals and sometimes just ok deals , you really have to look at his listings everyday.
