Newbie question about hydraulics

Thanks to everyone for answering my previous posts. I'm learning a lot.

Someone give me a short lesson on hydraulics basics, if you will.

Do all tractors (even manual trans) have hydraulic pumps? I guess if it has a 3pt hitch it must, by definition.

If I was looking at a used tractor with a cat 1 3 pt hitch, how do I know if it has the hydraulic capacity to operate an FEL if I get one later?

Are there standard hydraulic attachments on all tractors for attaching hoses for hydraulic operated attachments? Or, do you have to verify that the tractor has certain features to be able to attach them?

The best way to find out if a loader will work well on a particular tractor is to find the spec's for each one and compare them. Otherwise, you're just guessing if the tractor's pump will have enough pressure and flow (gpm) to run it effectively.

Not every tractor comes equipped from the manufacturer to operate hydraulic attachments. For instance, on my JD 790, a Selective Control Valve (SCV) must be added to operate a loader. You can also add the Power Beyond to operate a hydraulic controlled attachment such as backhoe, unless the backhoe has a PTO powered hydraulic pump in which case you won't need the Power Beyond kit.

If you're buying a tractor, you will need to verify how it's equipped if you plan to use add hydraulic attachments to it.

What does a selective Control Valve do?

Is a Power Beyond just a hydraulic pump that attaches to the PTO?

SCV is just their name for the valves that control the hyd fluid for the cylinders on the loader. Mine is the joystick style so it just has one lever for all four functions.
The valve has a center detent, pushing it left/right will curl/uncurl the bucket. Pushing up/down will raise/lower the loader arms. Some loaders may have two seperate levers for the bucket curl and loader up/down functions but those are usually on older designs.

Power Beyond is the JD name for adding more valves and hydraulic ports so you control more hydraulic functions. I don't have it on mine (yet). I think it's intended mostly for rear attachments but I suppose it could be used to control an attachment on the front of the tractor as well.

POWER BEYOND (HIGH PRESSURE CARRYOVER): A sleeve attachment which permits the oil flow from one valve (when in neutral) to be used by another valve downstream. Hence, a 3-spool valve could be connected to a 2-spool valve to create a 5-spool valve, The first valve takes priority and must have a separate outlet port to return oil from an activator back to the reservoir.
