I'm close to buying a tractor for pasture work (16 acres rough cutting and general maint.), and am down to something from a L4740 to L5740 with FEL with R1 ag tires. Leaning toward the L5740.

I also have 6 acres of zoysiagrass around the house and would like to use the tractor with a 3 pt 55gal. sprayer for surflan/herbicides if possible.

If I hold off on watering until the ground is dry, is it possible to use this heavy a tractor on level ground for spraying turf without too much damage?

Sure ... but why not put turf tires on the tractor... they will work well in almost anything, but plowing. KennyV.

Well, the turfs might not be too good for pasture work, especially when wet or if there are any hills.

You could compromise with R4's but I personally would recommend you stick with the Ags. For spraying a few times a year I think the Ags will be fine, just do it when it is dry, go slow, keep it in 2wd and make as wide a turns as possible.

N80, I did end up compromising on the tires and got R4s, but got a more powerful machine than I probably really needed to mow 12 acres of pasture. I went crazy (using the 42 month no interest financing) and got an L5740 FEL with a cab and a 7 ft Brush Hog, although that won't be in for a week so the dealer is loaning me a 6 ft until it arrives.

It's being delivered tomorrow since I don't have a trailer (yet) and I can't wait to get working. :)

The only other thing that I'm thinking about buying now is a Crop Care 3 pt 55 gal. sprayer for Surflan and herbicide on the turf lawn. I sprayed the almost 6 acre turf area back in October with Surflan using a hose sprayer -- took 6 days! Don't really want to do that again. LOL

Thanks, I hear ya. I was thinking of fertilizing the pasture so the weeds would grow back faster. LOL
