Newbie shredding

Bought my first tractor used. Its a 1970 Kubota L2000 (black market) and is suppose to be just like the L225. I bought a new Howse 4ft shredder. When I shred I set the rpm to the 540 mark on the tach. What gear should the pto be in? I have it in low/low and 1st gear. The pto has a 2 speed for low and 2 speed for high. The tractor movement speed in 4th gear. I tried it in 2nd gear and I could hear the blades speed up and gave me allot of vibration. Also any tips or tricks to shredding would be appreciated.

I'll take a stab at this. Your tractor has more than likely got a four speed pto. Your pto needs to be in 1st, which should be 540, 2nd is more than likely 1000rpm which can cause damange to your rig. Ask who you bought it from to make sure what your 540 pto speed is. Others on this site would be better at advising what you engine rpms need to be to achive 540. ( somewhere around 2000rpms)??
