Hi All,

I'm a fairly new YM226D owner and now that Spring is here and the grass needs to be cut, I've noticed that the front right tire is low. My plan is to take it off and take it in for repair. And there's the rub: The manual really doesn't provide any info on the process of tire changing. I've got a FEL and that manual implies you can use it to raise the front end for tire work but it recommends that you put stands under it after it's raised. The picture provided doesn't really give enough info to determine where to put a jack stand. Is it OK to place it on the axle housing? If not there, then the frame? Where on the frame?

I suppose that I'm just being paranoid but I would really hate to do something dumb here.

Thanks,
Neal

when I jacked mine up to take tires off I just put jack stands under axle as close to wheel as possible ,, not on the knuckle the axle.. I used the pumkin as a location for the jack (axle center ) didnt hurt anything,,.. just dont jack it up on the drive shaft and I think you will be alright

Anywhere under the front axle should be fine. It is very rugged. You wil need two jack stands because the axle pivots in the middle.

My quest is..Do I need to make arrangements for some lifting device for the rear tires? I would like to widen my syance and am fearful that i won't be able to remount them once I get em off?? thanks rick

I jack up the rear just enough to clear the ground. Then when I roll the tire back to it I let the jack down maybe a quarter inch to line up bolts. There's no lifting involved. Just rolling.

I do the same thing....roll the tires - carefully...and lean them on the tractor. I don't ever let the larger ones get away or lay them on the ground if I can help it because I can't get them up again by myself. BTW, if the tire does get off balance and starts to flop on the ground, don't try to save it... be smart enough to get out of the way and let it go. For size and weight, A 12x28 or 13.6x26 on its wheel is a reasonable size for one guy to lift upright once it is flat on the ground. If it has a wheel weight or liquid inside - well, don't even try to lift it. Just go get some sort of skyhook...

Portable engine hoist works well for this. Wrap a chain around the top of the tire and lift it just off the floor. It can't fall over.

This may fit here. The front tires on my YM2610D were a bit low and I was usung the FEL to move some dirt to cover a culvert pipe in a ravine. The bead let go on the tire and it went completely flat. I used the FEL to raise the front tires, cleaned the mud out of the bead and used an air tank to fill the tire and went right back to work. When it first let go I thought I was SOL. two days later the tire has the same pressure. The FEL is the most useful piece of equipment just ahead of 4 wd. I started out looking for an old Ford 8N ended up with the Yannie and would not have been able to do half the things I have without the 4WD & the FEL.
