- 2001 JD4300 (Cracklin' Rosie)
TBN has been an invaluable resource for past several months, leading to our recent purchase of JD 4300 HST (Cracklin' Rosie) from Jerry Stone of Clifton Park Lawn & Leisure, located about a mile from home.
'Tis same Clifton Park as mentioned in John Miller's 'Life in 1902 Upstate NY' thread. Our recently-purchased 1830 vintage farmlet (house, barns, and last 10 acres of the original farm) is in Halfmoon, adjacent to Clifton Park, and likely those families knew one another. We're grateful to be the current caretakers, and want to preserve what we can.
Also looked hard at Kubota L3010's, was impressed with those machines and dealers, (Dave Handy in Sharon Springs, Kevin Emerich in Charlton), but Jerry Stone was outstanding to deal with - no BS or bashing, price competitive, even lent us a new tractor for a weekend demo, which gave me ample time to get over the jitters and get comfortable with the machine on our property and application. That's salesmanship and having confidence to let the product speak for itself.
Conclusion: right machine, right price, right dealer, right location...and Rosie has a new home. Admittedly, if Jerry were instead a Kubota/NH dealer Rosie might be another color...but am thrilled with the outcome just as it is.
Main uses will be mowing about 5 acres, snow removal, garden tilling, and some land clearing and improvements such as fencing. Not to mention regularly surveying my domain, looking for those ever-pesky coyotes.
Thanks to all for the great discussions, advice, and experience sharing. The tractor purchase and recent thread concerning registration convinced me it was high time to join up. At this point, what's one more password?
Am just a grasshopper and have a great deal to learn, but eventually I hope to be able to give something back.
BTW, enjoyed the recent digital Camera thread - am now on a business trip near Kyoto, Japan, and if the yen gets any weaker (now 130JPY/USD) may be able to afford one while here (can we spell dumping?).
Every day commuting on the train am checking out the precision farming here. All orange machines - that's fine, they're all great for their respective owners.
God rest ye merry Gentlemen.
Dick
