Hi folks,
I'm still considering a tractor, I rented a Terramite T9 over the weekend to get a few odd jobs done around the house. It is rated at 32hp, web site says it is turbo'ed, it is all hydrolic drive, I believe the BH had a 12" bucket on it. I was thinking about getting the JD2520, but after this experiance wth the T9, I am not sure the 2520 has the hp I want. Looking for some feedback if anybody has used the T9 and might be able to compare it to the 2520 or something similar. Keep in mind this is the second time in my life I have used a such a tractor, the first was a small gear drive Kubota, no recollection of model.
Going up what I considered a gentle hill, the T9 made all sorts of whiny hydrolic noises and sounded like it was not happy at all doing it... and that was just the tractor, nothing in the FEL or BH!! Actually the noise level going up the hill was for me, unacceptable and based on that alone I wouldn't buy one. The engine also sounded like it was working hard and based on the smoke from the exhaust it was putting a good deal more fuel in to make it up the hill. I used the BH to pull up some small trees, less than 2" in dia, and it struggled a good deal to get them up. I also found when trying to move the BH up/down or left/right, that is was VERY difficult to get it to move smoothly and controlably, if the engine was running fast enough to have any power at all. No tach so I am not sure how fast engine was running, I am guessing 2000-2500 rpm range.
- Was all that 'drive train' noise due to the fact that it was hydrolic drive, or was there possibly something else going on? I also would not have expected the engine to work so hard just getting up a hill empty.
- Was I expecting too much of a 32hp tractor to be able to pull up a 1.5" dia olive tree without a fight? Could it have been that my technique was terrible?
- The BH movement was smooth for the arm in/out, bucket open/closed, although there was not enough hydrolics to do both at once. But arm up/down/left/right movement was best discribed as abrupt and violent.
- Would the 2520, or something similar, be smoother in it's motions, or is it just something I need to get use to.
- Would the 2520 type machine be able to pull small, <3"dia, tree's with it's BH without a fight?
The dealers near me won't let me take a unit home to test, I can only drive it around their field, not sure if this is going to let me get a feel for how well it works. So I am depending on you fine folks for guidance to help me spend my money.

PS- I was going to just rent a tractor when I needed one, which for my plans was the most cost effective way to get things done. But SWMBO'ed has started to go nuts with things she wants done around the place now that she has seen what can be done. She has STRONGLY implied that we should get our own tractor and not deal with hassles of renting.
I must admit I am a bit afraid of that prospect.... I am out of state 14 days a month for work.... I have no idea what I might come home to!
