was:newbie w/ a foster Satoh 370D but I misread a dirty engine plate.

My wife's uncle either loaned me or wanted to store his Sato 670D over the winter in one of my empty warehouses. He left a JD 550 tiller attached. No documentation for either, just gave me the key and told me to drive it home.

Tiller looks only about 5 yrs old, lightly used. Sato looks a lot older.

Any pointers for info on this tractor? All I see on it is the plate, the 30HP rating.

I'm mainly interested in quirks (such as the "wrong way pto").

I've got several acres of recently clearcut land (stumps removed) I'd like to start some deer foodplots on, will this tiller/tractor combo handle it or do I have to plow first?

Will the tractor handle a 2 bottom plow?

The tractor in my sig is in Virginia, this one is in Mississippi.

I purchased a 670D new back in 1983. Had it for 14 years and never one problem did it have. PTO is standard clockwise direction, selectable 540 and 1000. It will handle a 4' tiller very nicely, but 5' might be a stretch unless your soil is light. As for pulling a plow, it would require using the front wheel assist. Will it pull a two bottom? Again, depending upon soil type. My soil is very heavy clay, and caused some difficulty for 2-14" bottoms. 2-12" bottoms no problem. If you have an older, two bottom trailer type plow, depth adjustment may well be easier to control. I'd still have my 670D Bison yet today were it not for the fact that I wanted a heated cab for it, as snowblowing was one of its major uses here. Couldn't find a cab, so sold the tractor and got a JD 1050 with cab. The 670D had a far superior hydraulic system than does the 1050, so for loader work was much faster. Physically, the 670D isn't a large weighty tractor, so does very well around lawns where you don't want to leave wheel track ruts in soft conditions. Of course, don't use ag tires on a lawn.

Thanks for the reply.
I wish it had a loader, but it looks like it was only used w/ 3pt implements. I think he has a rotary cutter and a box blade in addition to the tiller. I need to talk to him more, but a loaned tractor is something I couldn't turn down.
