I have a B7100 Kubota with from what I have read and found has 18hp with 15HP at the PTO. Locally someone is selling a 48" Mitsubishi tiller that he was using on a 20hp john Deere (he said it was 18hp at the PTO)...A couple of question if my may ask:
- will my tractor handle this size tiller?? I have a lot of clay and I will be tilling this for the first time..hopefully to be ready for spring.
- he said it had an old 2 point hitch which he made into a 3 point hitch. I am new to this game so I am really not sure what this means...does this sound realistic??
- I will also need to make a drive line..is this difficult to weld up??

I am going to look at it on Saturday..he said it was in decent condition but I guess a look will tell me for myself.

Thanks for the help..

I have a 1983 B7100 and a Kubota tiller that is one meter wide (approx. 40 inches). The tractor handles full depth through an established lawn without problems. I till in low range in first or second gear. Sorry I don't know anything about the tiller you are looking at. The B7100 will do a great deal of work with patience and the right gear. Good luck.

Think your B7100 may have 16 HP with 12 at the PTO.

The drive line is not welded up per se. You can purchase them. Just make sure the splines match. It should have a shear pin or slip clutch on the drive line.

You can always remove the outer flange tines to get a smaller tiller.

My B7100HST pulls a 44 in tiller in rocky clay sod. I had to remove 1/2 the tines and the outward facing tines on the outside flanges to get it to work within the capability of the tractor and slip clutch. The outside tines were removed as rocks would jamb and break tines.

If this tiller does look decent and I do purchase it, how will I know if I need to remove some of the tines...will I break shear pins or the slip clutch let me know.
Sorry for all the quesiton but....
- Can you give me a ball park figure for cost of drive line??
- should I worry about the weight of the tiller or just the size??
Thanks for an update on PTO HP.
Thanks again for the help...

The rating may be a function of the year of the tractor or HST and DT gear drive. In 1983 a gear drive was rated at 18 and 15 according to the manual for my tractor. The tiller is used with all tines in place. I would call our sub-soil light gravel. Not sure how it would work in clay.

Can't give a price for driveline. A phone call to a dealer/equipement supplier should provide the answere.

Seems I"m mistaken on HP; mines a 93 HST which I was quoting.

I had to experiment to find the combination of tines that worked for me.

Sorry I canot be of more help.
