John Deere 425 All Wheel Steer
I found this forum while looking for answers to a few problems on my 425 AWS serial # M00425B021944. The tractor has about 1800 hours on it. According my mechanic the motor is starting to get tired, 130#s of compression but will last a bit longer before a replacement is due.

The biggest problem I have always had is that after shutting off the motor and letting it sit for awhile and trying to restart it. It seems as though the fuel boils and floods the motor making it difficult to start. I have been told there is a replacement carb that does not have this problem but have yet to confirm this or get a part number. Is there a possible fix to the original carb that is on it now? Opening the hood at the time I shut it off seems to help restarting it after about 15 to 30 min. It seems to relieve the heat around the engine. Also washing the motor down, especially the carb after mowing also helps. I seems the dust collects on the carb and causes it to retain heat. Wash the dirt off and the tractor runs much better.

Recent repairs have been

Power steering cylinder and both hoses
Starter
Time delay module
AWS linkage

Coming up repairs
NEW SEAT!!!!!
Replacement hood
Rebuilt Kawasaki motor
New set of rear tires

Foxgap1, welcome to TBN. I have a JD 325 lawn tractor that had symptoms similar to yours . If you are unsure about the fueling, remove the plugs and check to see if flooded. If the plugs are dry, you may have the same issue I had - a bad coil and/or igniter. Replaced both and now it starts hot or cold every time.

Have you ever replaced the fuel shutoff solenoid?
That shuts off the fuel supply to the carburetor.
Part # AM118873

That s/n is a 1994 number.. I believe.

I have not replace that part, thought about it, but did not do it yet. I would imagine since it seems to be flooding when hot it may be bad. I will put it on my list of things to do this coming week.

Thanks for the suggestion!!!!
