I have a 2wd 5103 with a 512 FEL that I just purchased. I'm trying to find out how much the FEL weighs. If it's in the manual, I've missed it. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks.

Mouse, I have a 2007 model 5103 and wanted a FEL when I bought the tractor, but the dealer was out of stock and could not get one at the time of the sale. To date, I haven't added this to the tractor and am on the fence as to whether I should even get one? Have you had a chance to use your loader? Are you happy with it? If you had it to do over again, would you get it? Your response is appreciated.

I think a good "guesstimate" is 800-1000 lbs.

While I am not the person you addressed your inquiry, I too have a 2007 5103 and bought the loader with it.

As to whether to acquire the loader, all I can say is if I didn't have the loader I know I would miss it. I don't use it daily or even weekly, but when I need it I need it. And there are numerous other tasks you can use it for (hauling fence posts, square hay bales, branches, heavy stuff, deer corn, etc) besides just using it to load gravel, dirt etc. So while it is NOT cheap by any means, I feel it is a most worthwhile addition. And yes, I am quite happy with it, it is EASY to use, despite that all that talk about the 5103 not being an automatic tranny. Of course, I have never used a tractor with the auto tranny, so I don't "know any beter!" :)

But, just my two cents worth. good luck!

I agree with Taylor. I haven't got to use it much, but I had a tractor before without a FEL and wished I had one. I moved a bunch of "junk" at my parent's house with it that I would have had to manually load on a trailer and then move to another location. Hay bales are easier now also. I have only had the tractor a week and haven't gotten to use it much, but I know that NOT getting a FEL for me was not an option. I think that it is well worth the money. :D

Mouse - for me the loader is a necessary part of the tractor. In my case a 2520.
I have used it for:

moving mulch, bulk and bags, to its destination.

when I trim weeds along the fences (500 feet out to the road) to carry trimmer, tools, fuel, chainsaw, etc.

carry weeds and brush to my dump pile (900 feet from the house)

move boxes, small machines, lumber to the walk-in basement/shop entrance, which is at the opposite end of the house from the drive.

manure and bedding out to the fields

I used it to lift off and reinstall the cap on my small pickup

many other uses. I will try to attach photo of removing 47" snowblower from my truck, the day I brought it home.

and yes, add a set of forks and it's that much better

By all means - get the loader!

And just another personal comment on its usefulness: yesterday the dealer brought me a new disc harrow and unloaded it with no trouble with the 5103/loader combination. Looked kind of like the picture posted above, amazing power of the thing, I never dreamed it could handle about a 1000 lbs of weight that easily (I have obviously been underusing the thing). My only regret was I didn't take a picture to share.

Unfortunately, it is too boggy to try out the disc harrow! (got the Frontier 1280) My spring plowing/planting awaits, and I can't stand it.

Enjoy!

Mine gets used much like Goodbye's but with snow thrown into the mix. I've also used it for lifting my docks and swim platform as well but the most labour saving job was moving my 8x10' wood shed back to the barn when I built the addition on the house. I strapped the rafters down with metal ties, then drove in and lifted the whole thing up with the loader by lifting on the inside of the roof. Then carried it 200yds up a hill. This gave me clearance to dig the basement with the loader.......
I don't know how well a loader would work on a 2wd without a LOT of ballast though. I need those front wheels pulling when I have a load
