I just came back from visiting my Dads house in Florence, AZ and he said that he's been feeding some abandoned and starving horses in the land across the street from him house. He said they showed up a couple months ago and were skin and bones. He contacted the owner of the property and the owner said that there should only be a few horses in there that belong to him- turns out theres 25+ horses on the property, many of which the onwer had no idea about.
My dad has been feeding them a couple of times a week cause he hates to see them suffer.

Well, on Thanksgiving, we went over there a with some hay and pellets and we came acorss about 8-10 steer. They tried to follow behind the truck for awhile then gave up. My dad said in all the months hes been to the property, hes NEVER seen cows or even trails or tracks from cows. These cows had yellow tags in their ear and a ring in their nose. My dad called the owner and asked him about the cows and the owner said he pulled his cows out of there a long time ago because they were starving to death. Well, the cows looked health and strong, except one. About 20 minutes after we finished laying all the hay out, a young steer came around the corner mooing like crazy. He was nothing but skin and bones. He had diarrea and was being pushed around by the other steer. My dad kept trying to set some food aside for him and the cow would follow my dad but the other steer would run up and push him out of the way.

Any ideas on what we can try and give/feed this poor cow (I call him Rudy) to maybe boost his health up?

Ive heard of antibiotic powder packs and colostrum powder to mix with sweet feed- is there anything else I should try?

Plus theres a horse on the property with a horrible eye infection. Its puffed up, dripping, red and barely able to open it. But thats a whole different story.

Since the owner isnt claiming the new found group of horses on his property or the cows, anyone know of a cow/ horse rescue group- cheap big animal vet that would be interested in helping?
Again this is in Florence, Arizona- about an hour south of Phoenix.

Thank you!!! :)

Welcome. In my parts we would call the local law or animal control who would come out and check the welfare. If they looked as bad as you are saying a vet would be called out. The law would conduct follow-up and if an owner was located charges could be brought up for animal neglect. If no owner was located then it would turn into a civil issue where the Sheriff would get involved and have the animals taken to a livestock unit where they would be brought back to a healthy condition and auctioned off if they passed all testing. Of course, some may be too far gone and would have to be euthanized.

It is very nice for your dad to be feeding them when he doesn't even own them.

Wow. So far 63 people have viewed my question and only 1 person helped me out with any sort of advice or suggestions?

To Nissan197 who was nice enough to reply, thank you :)

I could have told you what i would do but I don't think you would have cared for my idea. ;)

Yep, Nissan197 answered very well, I thought, so I couldn't think of anything to add.

iHeartAnimals - I just saw your post and I agree with Bird...about Nissan197 post and that should be all you need to know..Now it is your responsibility to do the right thing and call the Dept. of Ag in Arizona and get those horses and cattle the help they need. We don't know where they are...you do ...so do the right thing now !
