Newbie with tire questions (re: foam)

So I'm definitely going to need to fill my tires with foam. I've read up on the subject using the search.

But I'm a bit confused about tire sizes. None of the info that I've seen on this site seems to correlate to the sizes printed on my tires.

Front: 320/70R20
Rear: 360/70R24

Anyone able to shed some light?
I'm mostly trying to get an idea of the price I'll get. It seems like for all 4 tires, it can be around $2000 (from what I've read on this site).

I've spent this morning calling every tractor dealership or service place listed in the phone book for my area. Not a single one of 'em does the foam filling! And none of them can direct me to someone who does!!

Now what? Start calling places a couple of hours away, I guess.

Anyway, finally found a place to quote me a price.
Looks like it'll be $1500 for all 4 tires. The place I called sends the tires out somewhere to have it done. He couldn't give me an approximate weight.

I've got another place out of Atlanta that's calling me back soon.

Ka ching! and it just happens after you drained your wallet paying for the tractor in the first place. I am facing this issue myself. A few people have said previously to look at Gemplers Ultra Bullet. But you took one **** of a piece of wood in your tire.

Wonder if a lining or innertube filled with Gemplers would be a better and less expensive choice.

I called Multi-seal.
The Armor Seal would cost $320 for the 5 gallon. Plus $75 for the handpump. plus shipping.

It looks like a modified tire slime. It's a non-curing mixture. When a puncture happens, the air pressure forces some of the mixture out of the hole. The mixture contains fibers that collect in the hole with the slime and stop the air flow.

That's my understanding.

SO, why do you need foam? Working around a lot of nails, thorns, glass, cracked stone? Foam fill is good, but $$ as you found. There are also grades of foam, from hard as stone to soft like air. Choose soft if you want to remain on speaking terms (so to speak) with your butt!

Your tire sizes are metric, just like car tires. 320 or 360 is the section width in mm. 70 is the distance from the rim to the edge of the tire as a percentage of the width. 70 is 70% of the width is the distance from the rim to the tread. (320 *.70 = 224 mm) . 20 and 24 are the rim diameter.

Total tire height is then 224mm + 224mm + 20 inches or about 37.6 inches


One option not mentioned is just to buy cast iron wheel weights and keep some plugs with you. Filled tires are a bugger to plug, and foam is spendy. The slime really can piss off the tire guys when 5 gal of scmuck hits their shoes. Your call.
