neighbor has begged me into helping him change the blades on his newish ( 2-3 ys old? ) JD rider mower. guess he's tired of paying the 200$ pickup and change charge for a 40$ set of blades. He has no tools.. even borrows my grease gun once a year to grease the zerk on his gate.
anywho. we are neighbors so you know how that goes. I need to keep him happy as my farm maintenance isn't as perfect as his acres of finish mowed lawn.. and non stop ;andscaping since he is semi retired..
can i assume the nuts are standard left-loose, right-tight, IE,, tighten against the direction the blade travels, IE.. when cutting it's 'tightening' the nut.. like one would normally expect... or am I gonna find something weird under there.
he's suposed to come over tomorrow am when I go out to feed the animals before work.. so I don't have much time to dink around. I already got the tractor with laoder and chain and strap parked there to lift it, plus stands and ramps, will turn the compressor on in the barn first thing, and have my air guns set out.. pretty sure a 3/8 won't do it.. but have the 1/2 and big
3/4 ready...
any idea the size of the nut.. I'd like to have all the tools ready to go when he drives up so I can yank it up in the air spin the nuts off, yank old blades, slap the new ones on, and spin the nuts back on.
what torque value? I have a clicker wrench.
On my old beater murray, Ijust buzz em on and off and don't worry about torque. had one spindle strip and gall long ago from a stainless stell nut the manufacturer used
rethreaded that spindle.. so I'm always carefull with it.
as this is a nicer JD mower.. I'd like to have my ducks in a row, get him in and out fast, so I can go to work. I don't want him leaning over the fence trying to catch me all next week when I'll be even busy-er. He kept offering to pay me.. but IMHO.. I just want to get it done.. and won't be accepting any money. Last month he had a stump in his fenceline I helped him dig out. in the process we broke one of my old shovels. no biggie.. it was 15ys old. I told him REALLY don't worry about it.. so yesterday when he asks me about the mower blades he hands me a new shovel ARGH! I now feel obligated..
nut size? and I'm correct on standard right tight for that mower.. nothing alien under them high dollar units?
