Well after 3 mths of looking, testing, and pricing about every make of tractor that is available in my area I finally did it. I have agreed to a price with my local JD dealer on a new 4600 tractor. Below are the specs on the tractor with the attachments:

4600 4wd w/PowrReverser w/creeper
Foldable ROPS
extendable 3 point links
r4 tires
JD 460 FEL
JD MX5 cutter

Total $20,190.00 w/ delivery and first schedule service (labor not parts)

The deal is pending on 2 items

1. Dealer to install FEL prior to purchase so I can check out the entire assembled package. (correct anything that I find to my disapproval)

2. Approval from JD credit. (should not be a problem I am cursed with good credit)

Why did I choose this one.

1. Best price by nearly 600 dollars over the next possible equal in HP (not an equal tractor in my opinion)competitor (Kioti DK45). N.H. TC40 $1500 more and the local dealer never had any and seemed that they could care less if I wanted to buy one or not.

2. Comfortable with the dealer.

3. Major rebates which helped drive the price down.

4. Able to easily enter/exit the tractor from either side with the loader installed. (Something I could not do with Kubota or Kioti).

5. The main reason is I felt good about the tractor itself. Around here all I see in the farmer's fields are JD. Was able to visit with a few of them to inquire about the dealer and all had positive responses.

Test drove a 4510 and I fell in love with it but after I saw and tested this 4600 I did not see enough of change in the models to warrant the package price difference (about $2500) and that was on the 4510 the next level down. Should take delivery next Wed. With the following weekend being my 3 day weekend I plan to put it to the test.

Congratulations on your pending purchase. This sounds like a real good deal you got on everything. You're fortunate to have found a 4600 at all. When I was shopping back in the Spring, many of the 4x00 series tractors were sold, being replaced with 4x10 tractors. You likely got a good price break due to dealer wanting to move all 4x00 tractors. This is a great time to shop for these tractors for those lucky enough to find them on dealer lots. I'd say go for this deal. The two items you mention aren't biggies....dealer and JD should easily comply with your needs.

It sure sounds like you made a great deal on a great piece of equipment with a good local dealer. Life doesn't get much better than that. I'm sure you'll enjoy your new Deere. Good luck with it. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Make sure they give you a few hats!!!
My brother just bought a 5105 and he made them throw in a battery powered Gator for my nephew!

That's been a great tractor for me. I've pushed it way past anything it was meant to do and it just keeps humming away.

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the Green family! If your half as happy as I am with my 4310, you will be very satisfied!

Fishnhunt365,

When the setup is complete make sure you can take the FEL
off the tractor and put it back on with no problems. Its the
later that might get you.

My 4700 had a setup problem getting the FEL back on the
tractor. The dealer fixed it no questions asked. If I remember
right, the problem was the horizontal square tubes that hold
the FEL. They are on both sides of the tractor. If the bolts
on the tractors and/or the holes in the tubes are not just
right it can make it hard to get the forward locking lever to
pull up on the front bumper when the FEL is being put on
the tractor. Also make sure they give you the bracket that
locks the FEL bracket onto the bumper. The FEL bracket is
an L shaped piece of metal across the front of the FEL close
to the tractor. JD has another bracket that locks the FEL
bracket. Its hard to explain but if you see it I think you will
know what I mean..... I hope. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Good Luck!

Test drove the complete "rig" yesterday. Removed the FEL by myself without any mechanical problem (the only problem I experienced is when to use the bucket hydraulics and when to use the arm hydraulics, this will clear up with practice) Salesman said to make sure when I remove the FEL to do it on level ground. It has the FEL safety latch. Everything else was just fine. /w3tcompact/icons/love.gif Can't wait to put that MX6 cutter into some of my underbrush!

Also discovered that JD has a new promotional offer going on. It seems that if you buy three JD caps @ approx. $7000.00 ea. they will give you a free tractor w/ FEL & cutter! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

The "rig" will be delivered tomorrow morning and I do not have to go back to work until Monday. I am liable to need the 50 hr. maintenance by then. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Talked salesman into throwing in the warning lights brush guard kit and a set of the ratcheting tie down straps. He also is going to fill the rear tires with the water/antifreeze mixture.
Don't ya' just love this guy! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Hope to have some pictures of it in action to post soon.

fishnhunt365,

In a previous post you asked bnixon where he bought his tractor. If you live sixty miles east of Houston I figure that puts you either in Winnie or Beaumont. Where, if you don't mind saying, did you buy your tractor? When I was tractor shopping last year I considered looking in Beaumont because that is only an hour from where I live in Baytown and I pass that way frequently on my way to visit my folks in Ark. I never did stop and shop but I am just curious to know if I missed anything by not shopping in the Golden Triangle.

Congrats on the new JD!
